Hello! I am trying to use my 2014 Moto X with Motorola Device Manager on Windows 8.1. After installing MDM(Motorola Device Manager), I thought that MDM would automatically boot up when I connect my phone. But my phone is still being treated as a "Portable device" and some default windows driver is being used for it (as shown in the device properties). I tried to delete the default windows driver, reinstall MDM and then connect my phone but no luck.

My last resort was to choose the "Update driver" option from the devices menu and manually point to where MDM stored the driver from my Moto X. I am not sure of that exact directory.. I chose windows\system32\drivers but no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to Android Central! What happens if you don't have Motorola Device Manager installed? If you connect the phone to the computer via USB, is it still only recognized as Portable Device? Most major phones should be able to install by simply connecting via USB, without having to install anything else yourself.

Hi. Yes, the phone is recognized by the default windows driver--but it seems MDM cannot detect my phone using that driver. I want to be able to use the Motorola signed driver (installed as part of MDM) for my device so that MDM can also detect it. That, I haven't yet been able to do.
