I'm having a hard time resisting some of the wood-backed finishes on this phone.

BUT...I'm concerned about how smooth/slippery the phone will be in my hand. Any experiences with whether you have to be a little more careful with the wood finishes, or is there no gripe with the grip?

TIA

Re: For All You Woodies Out There...How's The Grip?

There was a gay bar near where I lived named "Woody's", and from what I heard, they had a very tight grip.

'Woodies'- I like that. Still waiting on mine (ebony) but I'm coming from an iPhone 5 so I doubt it'll be too much different for friction coefficient. I baby all my devices anyway- The only reason I'm not putting this thing in an Otterbox (aside from the size) is the wood back and accent colors.

"Woody" and "Bar" together just takes me back to Cheers. But I'm old. Normally I'd've run with something more risque, but I didn't necessarily commit the TOS to memory and I'm new around here. Aim to stick around awhile.

Yeah. That's where I'm at. Can't case the ebony (or teak). But it's between that and a sure grip "warm" color.

Re: For All You Woodies Out There...How's The Grip?

Mine has the bamboo back and it has a smooth feel to it but also, partly due to the size of the phone, it has just enough texture to provide just a little bit of grip. Don't get me wrong; it's no where near like 10-grit sandpaper. The soft-touch plastic/rubber backs probably have a little more grip to them. But I'm more than satisfied with the bamboo.

Re: For All You Woodies Out There...How's The Grip?

I have the bamboo back and I do find it slick. When I grab it I need to make sure I have a sure grip on it. I was contemplating rubbing some tung oil on the bamboo to give it a nice finish and protect it but I fear it may make it more slick.

Re: For All You Woodies Out There...How's The Grip?

I've got the ebony back and it is better than expected. Not as grippy as the black 2013 X, but better than regular plastic. I don't feel worried about it slipping at all which was a concern of mine.

Re: For All You Woodies Out There...How's The Grip?

I have the ebony version. I feel it is pretty slick, but not too slick to deter me from buying it again. It is just more slippery than my old gnex, which had textured plastic on the back rather than the smooth wood on the X.

Re: For All You Woodies Out There...How's The Grip?

The material is same as the previous Moto X, it's going to be a little slippy. I will put XtremeGuard wet applied screen protector to the back which will improve the grip, gotta protector my wood.

Re: For All You Woodies Out There...How's The Grip?

I got mine yesterday white front / bamboo back. I feel I have more grip on it than I did with my S4. The only reasoning I can come up with is that the curved back adds MORE contact patch than a flat phone. (Since my hand is curved.)

I haven't had any slippage issues even when grabbing it right after getting my hands out my gloves riding the motorcycle and was all sweaty. Seems fine to me.

I have the walnut back and these are my sentiments exactly. Not as grippy as my 2013 Moto X with soft-touch back, but plenty fine. And, as I've said elsewhere, the Hula Bumper does a GREAT job of increasing grip and just giving you a better "lip" to hold onto in general. I don't use it all the time, but I put it on the phone when I know I'm going to be in a situation where good grip is a must -- like today, since I'm planning to hit a bar with colleagues after work tonight.

I also have the ebony, and agree. It's actually LESS slippery than the plastic back that I handled in the Verizon Store. Plus, I think it will get even more "grippy" over time with handling. The wood grain has a slightly tactile feel. And it really makes this phone stand out from the crowd.

Re: For All You Woodies Out There...How's The Grip?

I went with the standard back (plastic?) at the Verizon store -- nothing custom -- and I can confirm that the thing is like a bar of soap. I'm thinking the wood back can't be bad (comparatively).

I have the horoween leather back. It's a lot slippier than my soft back moto x first gen..

Re: For All You Woodies Out There...How's The Grip?

I can feel more of the graining on the bamboo back. With the teak and 2013 walnut backs they have a smoother feel. I would describe the feel as a slightly matte finish, not glossy slippery nor sticky rough in feel.

Re: For All You Woodies Out There...How's The Grip?

Interesting thought about the texture. I got the black resin back and it has the perfect amount of grip, even better than last year's plastic. It feels like hard high end rubber.

I find the bamboo back grippier (is that a word?) than my white Nexus 5. I like it!!
