Moto X 2014 How do I correct the Automatic Date and Time?

Hi all,

I just got my Moto X 2014 yesterday, and love it, with one exception (so far). The time on the phone is off by 7 hours when I have the automatic time and date set. I'm in PDT, and the time shown is 7 hours later (so equivalent to GMT). Sometimes, the time shown actually flips between the correct time and the GMT time for awhile, but always ends up settling on the GMT time.

Here's what I've done to troubleshoot so far:

--Enabled and disabled the automatic time and timezone settings
--Enabled and disabled wifi
--Turned the phone off and on
--Did a partition wipe (at the suggestion of Motorola tech support)
--Booted into safe mode to see if any of the apps might have been causing the problem.

None of these has helped, though the last two each seemed to fix it, as the phone didn't revert to the wrong time for 3-5 minutes after I had done those.

In practical terms, this isn't the biggest deal in the world, since I can just set the time manually, but it's really bugging me. Some research and a comment from Motorola tech support suggests that this is a none problem with KitKat, and will be fixed in Lollipop, but I'm not sure I believe that.

Any suggestions?

Re: Automatic Date and Time is incorrect

Unfortunately, the Automatic Time setting is provided by your carrier. If the time is being sent incorrectly by them (or if automatic time sync is not available), you're not gonna get the correct time and/or date. Also, make sure that your time zone is either set to automatic or set to PDT (not sure if this is an option or not, not all phones have this).

Re: Automatic Date and Time is incorrect

My OG X is set on auto. But I just unchecked that and now it shows 'GMT-6:00, Central Daylight Time' (I'm on CST) and shows the time correctly. Based on your name you are in Seattle (and a Cubs fan but I won't hold that against you), so you're not on the border between time zones.

Re: Automatic Date and Time is incorrect

My Moto X arrived today. I am very happy. :) However, I;m having the same issue. I have had to uncheck the Automatic Date and Time setting. When it is active, the time automatically sets to exactly 7 hours off. (I'm in the Pacific time zone, as well.) If I uncheck it and recheck it, the time corrects itself. But within the next 30 minutes or so, the time reverts to the 7 hour difference.

I hope it gets fixed in a future update.

Re: Automatic Date and Time is incorrect

I've had my Verizon X for a few weeks and this just started happening to me yesterday. I'm on eastern time and it puts me 4 hours ahead, switching back every so often. Maybe they're upgrading so we can use voice and data simultaneously.

Re: Automatic Date and Time is incorrect

Do you happen to live in Seattle? I got my new Moto X (Verizon) about 2 1/2 weeks ago and whenever I'm in the SODO area of Seattle (near the stadiums) the time jumps exactly 7 hours ahead. I live outside of Seattle and I've never had the problem anywhere but near the stadiums. I've talked to Verizon techs at length three times about it. The first time they contacted Motorola support and eventually had me do some troubleshooting stuff with my phone that didn't help. The second phone call resulted in a "ticket" being generated that was supposed to trigger a more in-depth look into the problem. They called me back a week later and simply gave me the same advice they gave before. They asked me the same exact questions I was asked before, as if nothing I had said had been documented. The woman eventually admitted that the ticket showed the phone in question was an iPhone, not a new Moto X, so clearly something went wrong. My third phone call seemed to be with a tech who was actually going to contact a tech in Seattle to investigate the specific area where I'm having the problem. He generated a new ticket number. It's been a few days since that phone call and I haven't heard back. I was off work the past three days (not in Seattle) and I didn't have any issues with the phone. This morning I drove back down to the SODO area of Seattle and I'm having the same problem. My clock is 7 hours ahead.

Re: Automatic Date and Time is incorrect

I'm still having this issue. I thought the recent update might fix it, but no. I guess I'll go down the Verizon rabbit hole and see what they say.

I live in Seattle and am also having this problem. It's happened to me in SoDo, Belltown, and up on Cap Hill. It seems to happen when I am surrounded by tall buildings. Frustrating issue indeed.
