Moto X (2014) No sdcard, does this bother you?

Coming from a Thunderbolt which shipped with a removable 32gb sd card (+8gb on board), not having an SD slot on new x is not stopping me from getting the new x.
At the least though I'll be getting a 32gb motomaker version.

SD cards are for the weak! Well not really....My girlfriends Moto G LTE has one and she loves it. I would rather just use tjhe cloud. I think the CD card is easier to handle from a lower end user stand point but for me the cloud works just fine. So no the SD card is not a huge deal. Would have made a great bonus though. Not gonna lie.

Not one bit. I am in a great area for LTE and my company gives me more bandwidth than I can use. And when I'm at home or work I have access to WiFi so I am always connected to my Google Drive and all the web services I use. 32GB of local storage will be more than enough (by a good margin) for many years to come.

Given the choice, I would choose to have it everything else being equal. But as long as I can have my 32g, it does not bother me.

16g is not enough. Period. I wish the manufactures would kill it off completely for flagship devises. Everything will only get bigger and need more space in the future. What is adequate now will not be tomorrow.

Is this a deal breaker or not?

I'm perfectly fine without a SD card slot. It's not like I'd be able to store apps there anyways. I do wish they had a 64 GB version though. I'm going to hold out to see if they ever release it.

With everything switching over to ART. It'll be necessary.

Not at all ! I'm not going to place all my documents or anything else on my phone.

To be honest, I have never used all of my 16 G anyway. If you are then this is not the phone for you and I can also say that you really don't use every thing on your micro SD.

Hypothetically speaking, if the Moto X had a microSD card slot, would that be a deal breaker? I would guess that for most people, it would not be a problem where it would discourage them from buying the phone.

It wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me, but I would be disappointed.

Why would you be disappointed if Motorola added a microSD card slot to the Moto X? If you prefer not to use it, you could leave it empty. You are not required to insert a microSD card to operate the phone.

It's a waste of resources.

However much it costs in materials, licenses, engineering costs, software development (now and ongoing) and the engineering and space considerations in design are all more better spent on either simplifying the design, lowering costs to the consumer and/or adding functionality.

Making that decision means something else lost time/energy/money, which has a strong potential of negatively impacting the user experience (for those that don't need it).

I have never really used my phone as a music player so I haven't even come close to running out of space on a phone with 16GB of storage space. I have plenty of options with OneDrive and DropBox for backing up my photos so I don't mind that there isn't an SD card slot. I may get the 32GB Moto X just for kicks though. Like someone else said, I'd much rather have a removable battery than the option of using an SD card.

How much of a waste would it be, considering that the research and development was already done with the Moto G and Moto E?

Engineering, licensing, software/kernel support = time and money. Physical space is taken up (at the expense of battery? width or thickness? or what?) Cost is passed down to us in higher expense or that money is not spent on other features, either way we pay for it in higher costs and/or less features. If it costs even $1 per device that's millions that is not being spent on R&D and/or other stuff we want. I think we all know it costs more than $1 per device.

I thought it would, but bought a 32 GB Nexus 5 anyway. I don' t miss the SD card at all so to anyone contemplating a Moto X I say go ahead. Google isn't supporting SD cards all that well. Also it's nice to just be able to unplug my phone from a USB computer connection without ejecting the device first.

Not a deal breaker at all for me. Used to be that I was all up in arms about it...

No, not a problem really. My only issue is, if they are going to include 4K video recording, they probably should have offered a 64GB version at launch. It just baffles me little that it isn't available now, when the 2013 version has it.

I would be interested to know more about the opportunity cost for a microSD card slot on a Moto X. Would you be able to quote an article from a business publication or something similar?

As in how many people did not buy the Moto X who would have otherwise had it had a MicroSD card?
