Moto X 2014 Post your end of day battery screen shots

Probably moot at this point, but here are mine from today, which was a fairly typical day. Slighty light on voice calls at about 90 minutes today, but heavier on screen time as I was messing around with Moto Assist settings a bunch this morning instead of working like I was supposed to be.

Put my screen on Auto yesterday, but discovered it had reverted to factory settings this morning (had a reboot at midday because my SWYPE functionality died even though it was activated - I'm not yet fully in love with this phone due to little buggy stuff like that).

Also just turned off roaming WiFi settings about 15 minutes ago (just took the screen grabs) when I realized they were still on.

As far as anecdotal evidence goes (throw it out the window), I'm coming from a 2-year-old HTC One X, and this thing has SUPERB battery life compared to that. So I'm happy. But YMMV, and I'm sure if you have a more recent phone than me, your battery is likely much better.

I really want to love this phone, but the battery is horrible. I am averaging about 13 hours on battery with a couple of hours screen time. It seems like the phone never really sleeps. I just don't know if I can keep if with the need to charge it twice a day.

My phone died in two hours the other day, after being about 90℅ charged. I used Google Maps for about 30 minutes and then had it in my pocket, connected to my Moto 360 and it became really hot and eventually died. This is not good. I really loved everything about this phone except the battery. It was the first time being on a mobile network. The other times, I was mostly on WiFi and it last 10+ hours.

20 hours with +3 hours screen time. I don't usually have so much screen time, but I'm constantly fiddling around with settings and new apps since this phone is new.

There are reports of battery drain with phones connected to AndroidWear devices, not just the X.

I've had a 360 sync for a week and a day. Has not made one negative different in battery, in fact may help it. Most times I don't even get the phone out of my pocket.

Wasn't indicating it was widespread, just that some seem to notice an impact on their phone's battery once they started using it with a AW watch.

For reference:

Wasn't insinuating you're indication was meant to be wide spread. Simply sharing my experience.

Over the years I've noticed, no matter what device forum, how greatly the battery experiences can be. A certain percentage have to be defective hardware while I think many unknowingly misrepresent their usage habits. An apples to apples comparison with electronic battery life is near impossible to achieve.

Re: Post your end of day battery screen shots

I'm having very disappointing results with my 2nd gen battery. Here are shots of a typical day. I didn't check the phone much. Somehow android services topped the list. Suspect 4G signal strength and spotty work WiFi is at the heart of it.

Your phone was awake a lot there at the end without the screen too. The signal issue doesn't help either. Bluetooth is on. How many programs do you have that could be constantly getting info? I see a weather widget and NFL on your status bar.

I suppose I'll have to start uninstalling some of them to get a sense of who is wasting my battery. I wish the battery stats told you which app drove the android service requests.

I paid pretty close attention when I first turned on Bluetooth. It didn't seem to make any difference leaving it on. Is that consistent with other's experience?

As for usage, from 100% until the afternoon charge cycle I was in the office. What you see after is podcast playback on the road for 45 min during my commute home followed by a bunch of running around with the kids. When I'm in the car I plug the phone into the charger.

The steep drop late in the cycle was while I was running a soccer practice. That smells to me like radio issues. My wifi was on but not connected to anything. There were open networks around me so it was always searching. I could try turning Wifi off at practice/games. But that doesn't solve the larger issue.

I also just loaded BatteryGuru so we'll see in a week or so if that helps.

Today I'm working from home. 8h 51m and I'm at 51%. The phone has been mostly idle except for checking e-mail (Touchdown) and some light web browsing. Screen is the top consumer ~20% reporting 1h 7m of usage. It'll be interesting to compare usage stats vs. when I commute to work.

try this:

it should let you know which apps are waking up your device/cpu etc

Thanks but this app requires root access. There is a message about the stats permission being changed in KitKat. I'm not rooted.

Re: Post your end of day battery screen shots

Kept the phone off the charger while working from home today. It seemed to behave itself pretty well while on Wifi until I left the house this afternoon. Then things went downhill very quickly. Before leaving the house screen was at 20%.

There are three drops shown in the graph. The first was early morning game play with Real Racing 3. Much later there are two more major drops. The first was driving to a soccer field. The 2nd major drop was driving home from the soccer field. In between the drain resumed roughly the same slope seen at home. While driving the phone sat in my dash mount idle. No calls, no activity on my part. After dropping my daughters off at home I took a trip to the store playing a podcast. This didn't seem to accelerate the battery drain. Once I got to the store I took the snapshots. Whatever is going on it has to do with being out and about. Bluetooth was connected in the car but not on the soccer field. Wifi was left on but not connected to anything. Could it simply be Bluetooth drain?

Here is what the numbers looked like.

you are correct Sir - my apologies

I get my X tomorrow and will be back on a stock non-rooted device too. I overlooked that it needs root. A very good friend of mine recommended the app (he's rooted too), and so I just installed without even reading the info, installed on my tablet too.
Kind of bummer I won't be able to use it - a real nice way to see what's waking up the device.

oh well - let's hope lollipop will fix your phone's problem

Day One. Not too bad, but it would be nice to have a little more available at the end of the day (just in case). Hopefully it will get better with break in.

Brightness set to auto. Everything turned on except NFC. 1 to 2 bars LTE for 6hrs and WiFi for most of the rest of time.

Not bad at all!

I'm curious... What Moto features do you have on? Did you do any driving with driving mode on?

Something is definitely keeping your phone awake when the screen is not on, there's a big chunk visible near the end of your day there. I assume you've tried simply rebooting the phone? Sometimes that's enough to jog a misbehaving app back into line.

Here's another app you can try that does not require root to dig in deep to your battery use: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ails?id=com.gsamlabs.bbm&hl=en&token=qZcGrRje

I haven't used this myself, but I know it gets mentioned in a lot of battery threads for different phones.

Pretty close to all of them. I have driving mode on; the wave to silence and approach; the launch phrase, and moto display.

I did a bit of driving with it (to and from work, ~30 mins each way) but only used it for receiving a text and making a phone call.

Currently (day 2) I am at 48% battery and 1hr 34 mins screen time... :-|
