Has anyone used turbo charger? Is it effective as it claims? Is it worth investing?

Re: Turbo Charger

I have the Turbo Charger, and find that it only reduces charge time by about 25%. To go from a battery level of 20% to 100%, the Turbo took 1 hour 20 minutes, whicle the regular charger took 1 hour and 50 minutes.

Re: Turbo Charger

I bought two of them and am glad I did. To me, the usefulness of the Turbo Charger is less in going from almost dead to full, and more about adding significant charge quickly (say, taking it from 50% to 75% in 15-20 minutes). This is great at the end of the day at work when you've got evening plans.

Also, to clarify: it only takes me an hour to go from ~20% to 100%

Re: Turbo Charger

I have one and love it. I use it when I need to charge my phone at work, and I use the regular charger at home. At work I don't have many available outlets and have to leave my phone in my boss' office while it charges, so the less time spent on the charger the better.

Re: Turbo Charger

Yes. It gives you that extra boost when you need it and a regular charge if not in a hurry.

Re: Turbo Charger

It seems to me that the turbo charger is most effective when your device is nearly depleted. In other words, the lower your battery percentage the faster the charge. So is th turbo charger that effective at, say, 50% and above? Motorola's own disclaimer says this:

"Battery must be substantially depleted; charging rate slows as charging progresses"

Can anyone with a turbo charger elaborate on this?

Re: Turbo Charger

I finally was able to get one of these ordered. It can't be bad for the phone as the Nexus 6 and Droid Turbo come with them.

I even got $25 voucher from moto from complaining that it kept being out of stock. It was a little over $16 shipped.

My phone wasn't at 50%, but I plugged it in to my Tenergy charger today at 42%. After exactly 30 minutes, it was at 71%. I don't think that's too bad.

Re: Turbo Charger

My pleasure. If you do get the Tenergy one, make sure to use the coupon code from Slickdeals. Not worth a ton, but better than nothing.

Are you, or anyone else here using Turbo charging tech, worried about battery degradation? I've read that these Turbo chargers shorten the life of the battery over time?

Re: Turbo Charger

I know that some people expressed concern about its effect on a battery's life, but I haven't seen any official documentation to support that concern.

I would have to believe that it won't be a problem since it comes standard with certain phones (e.g. Turbo). However, I could be wrong. That said, I don't normally keep phones for that long, so I probably won't worry about it.

My theory is that battery life isn't destroyed by the fact that charging does slow down as it becomes more full. I think the battery can handle the faster charge when it's empty without problems. It's trying to fill it faster when it's closer to capacity where problems occur.

This is just my theory, though, and I could be COMPLETELY wrong.

That theory actually makes a lot of sense, which is why even on Motorola's own website, they have a disclaimer saying the Turbo charger is most effective when the device's battery is very low...

I could see what you're saying being true.

Re: Turbo Charger

I found for a "Full" charge the difference is not significant. But does charge to 50% very quickly. If you are already going to purchase a second charger, its worth the extra $ I think.

Re: Turbo Charger

I think the wear concern is down to heat generated, does the phone feel warm? It doesn't on normal charge. if it does that heat is from the battery. I don't have turbo charger so can't comment.

Using the Tenergy charger, I can confirm that the phone does get a little warmer. However, it's not significantly warm. I think the battery temperature may approach 90 degrees, according to the GSam battery monitor.

Re: Turbo Charger

They WILL put "some" extra wear on the battery. More resistance=more heat=more battery wear. Probably not a lot (at the lower levels of charge), but I would not recommend one as your "daily driver" (only use when needed).

Re: Turbo Charger

I just got mine and I will use it for my travel charger while on the road. My work has me away from home about 60% of the time.

Also if it was bad for the battery why would Motorola provide it with the Droid Turbo and the Nexus 6?

......Qualcomm wouldn't have come up with the technology if it was bad
