What was your previous device and what is that one feature/feature's you miss by switching over to the new Moto X?
I'm pretty sure there are some trade-off's since the New Moto X is not a perfect phone, but no phone is.

To get the ball rolling...

My pure edition Black/Bamboo is slated for 10/07 delivery. I'd be switching from a Nexus 5 and will miss wireless charging.
Unlike all other phones, I intend to hang on to the Nexus 5 because IMO the N5 is a very solid device and the one which I have held on to the longest. Active Display and the option for a custom-made wood/leather back unlocked phone is the main reason I'm getting this phone.

I'll be switching from a Nokia Lumia 1020. I will obviously be missing the 41 MP camera.

Man, I'm was ready for the Moto X 2014 until I found out Sprint won't be carrying it...at least that's what the consensus is at this point. Wireless charging is a big one for me as well should I switch devices. Though with the Moto X 2014, I'm sure it'll more than make up for it in all other aspects.

Let us know how you like the device once you receive it and if there are any other things you particularly miss that may not be available on the Nexus 5, i.e. ability to flash factory images.

Yep, that too. Although I won't miss that since Moto X is near stock and should be getting Android L fairly quickly. But that's one of the reasons I've decided to hang on to the N5, since I don't use tablets I got to have one google device to fall back on to.

My previous device was the HTC One M7 and the only thing I miss is the SLCD 3 screen.

The AMOLED is not bad, but it lacks the crispiness of the LCD - colours seem washed out.


Other than that, all good. The speaker obviously no match against the HTC boom sound but it's actually very good and I'm happy with it.

Leaving the S3. I'll miss switchable batteries on demand, the led notification light, and SD cards.

The Z2, G3 and OnePlus One all had Knock on and all but the Z2 has knock off. Kind of a gimmick but cool. Since the Moto X turns on as you reach for it it is similar but I grew to like that feature.

I had a Droid RAZR HD. 2 things I miss. First, micro SD slot. Second seems small, but I love the circles widget the Droid phones have. I haven't found anything that works exactly the same.

Previous device: HTC Aria.

There's really not much to miss, considering its about to be a 5 year old phone. But, I will really miss the FM radio. I would get the G if I didn't hold on to my phones so long, so I want the best I can possibly get at the moment. I used FM radio a lot while riding my bike and working out. Now I'm going to have to load a pretty decent sized library of music on the phone.

I still can't understand how inferior models get apps and hardware like expandable storage and stereo speakers that the flagship doesn't. Is there anything a Ford Fusion doesn't offer that a Ford Fiesta does?

Last flagship phone was the OnePlus, things I miss include superb camera (one of the best I've used), superb battery, screen off gestures, CyanogenMod's theme engine, 64gb storage and low price. With the screen off gestures you can draw a V for flashlight and O for camera, I wish there was an easy way to turn on flashlight for the X.

Yeah there are lots of great things about the OnePlus, but the phone is just too big and at that size it kind of made all the other benefits a moot point. It can have everything great, but if it's uncomfortable to carry around and keep in the pocket it's not worth it for me. Also the Moto X features are just invaluable to me, Tasker doesn't offer the same seemless experience.

The fact that I am willing to pay $200 more for the X, miss out on all those OnePlus features, but I get a barely slightly more compact device, Moto features, better ergonomic and better signal quality, so it shows the attention to details Motorola put in the design, it's more than just high-end specs. Usability is a top priority for me. But the size of this device is probably the limit of my use comfort. The next X cannot be bigger than this in overall size (not display size). Assuming the next X is even bigger overall, I might only get it if all the specs, battery and camera performance is on par with the rest, or they come up with some amazing must have features that can't be replicated with third party apps.

Once you adapt to the new notification system, you will not miss the notification light.

I'm coming from an M7...I will miss the speakers on that bad boy! Excited for the Moto X. Should have mine tomorrow or tonight. Likely tomorrow.

I had a Galaxy S5, and in my opinion, the only thing that was better on the S5 was the larger, user replaceable battery. This is not a big issue for me, as I am normally not a heavy user. The features I like best on the Moto X (Pure Edition) are the Moto Display notification system, the infrared proximity sensors, and the plain Kit Kat, with no carrier bloatware. The only software modification I made was to add a different keyboard (with SwiftKey), as I didn't like the stock Android keyboard. I also find that the the quality of voice calls on the Moto X 2nd Gen is superior to any cellphone that I have ever owned.

The phone I'm currently using? A Galaxy S3. And I hate it. Not one feature on the phone, let alone one to miss. I've had bad experiences with Samsung. Two defective-and-then-they-died Galaxy S2s, a laptop that lasted 11 months and a Galaxy Tab that even my tabletless 8-year-old nephew isn't interested in - he picks it up, it doesn't do what he wants and he says to my husband: can I talk to your TV? (Translation: "XBox On. XBox Watch TV.") For the record, I've never had issues with any other brand's electronics.

The reason I'm buying? The current Galaxy S3 died last January and we were in the middle of multiple family emergencies. I had Square Trade insurance on it, and assumed when I sent it back they'd send me a check. I bought a Moto X 2013 at the AT&T store, full-price before the drop to $349, and loved it. Loved it. Everything about it. Think it was worth every penny of the $599 I paid. The GS3 was reparable, so they sent it back.

Currently my mother has it because in June she mentioned she thought she might like a smart phone. (She's on our plan because when her town flooded a few years ago and we were living 1,000 miles away, she came home from work, parked her car 1.5 miles away, walked through the flooded, no power streets at dusk because her dog was at home and needed to be taken out. Never mind that her SAHM neighbor had a key and her kids would have fought to be the one who walked the dog and Mom could have gone to my brother's house where there was power, heat, and no water on the ground. I went into Verizon and had them send a phone out the next day.) She had had two basic "for the elderly flip phones" in the last six years - we had to switch it on her when we switched to AT&T - but wanted to be able to easily check her email. I knew the Moto X 2014 was on the way, knew she would never have the patience for the crap the GS3 is, so I gave the Moto X 2013 to her. Now I'm patiently waiting for mine to arrive in tomorrow's Fed-Ex.

If I had a wish, I'd wish for the size of the Moto X 2013. I loved it compared to my GS3, and the Moto X 2014 is almost exactly the same size. Other than that, I think this phone is basically perfect.

I agree. Moto was quick to get the Moto X updated, and I would expect it to be the same if not better for the 2014 model.

I had the first Moto X. The only time I missed anything was the couple of times I tried out other phones and ended up having to go back to the Moto X. I don't know what I'll do if the day comes they take active notifications away.

Ditto...except the colors on mine are over saturated as is typical for AMOLED. The M7 LCD was nicer and subjectively much more accurate. I'll happy keep the compromise though in exchange for Active Display & notifications. Totally worth it.

I'm also impressed with the sound quality. The jack, speaker and BT outputs all seem to have better clarity than the M7 (again subjective and probably weighted with a hint of "fresh purchase" bias. XD ).

Honeymoon is over and I'm going back to my previous Moto X. The thing I really missed about the old phone is its size, much more portable, palmable and I don't have to gingerly hold onto the phone like the new one. I initiated the moto refund today and what I'll miss from the new X:
1. More informative active notifications
2. Customizable OK Google Now phrase
3. Touchless IR sensors.
4. 5.2" display
