Moto X - Can you use a laptop BT for BT trusted devices?

So I paired my brand new HP Folio 1040 to my Moto X.
Went through all the steps to add it to Trusted Devices but this feature only kicks in when I manually navigate to my phone device from Windows Explorer.
Any ideas on what could be done or it is what it is?

I was hoping to do the same thing--use my laptop as a trusted device, but unfortunately it just won't work. It doesn't maintain an active connection.
