Moto X Pure Edition Flashlight Gesture not working for me

I just received my Pure and am having trouble launching the Flashlight via gestures. I am coming from a 2013 and have no problem launching the camera, which just may be because I am used to it.

The flash does work, but I cannot get it to launch at all via gestures. I've tried different flicking speeds, lengths, and different hands. Any recommendations?

Did you turn the option on?

Re: Moto X Flashlight Gesture

Don't use your wrist at all. Think tomahawk.

That flashlight gesture

I'm probably the only one this happens to but I can't get that "quick handshake" "karate chop" gesture to work. I think I got it maybe once out of 20 times and then couldn't duplicate. Is this a "secret handshake"? ;)

I was inconsistent at first, but practice makes perfect. It's all in the wrist!

Keep your entire arm still EXCEPT for your wrist, when you do the motion....

I think there need to be a lanyard added like the Wii motes, since I can see some phones tomahawking into the night ;) Does seem an odd movement for a device we do not want to fling out of the hand.

At first I was bad at it .. but after a few times I got it down now .

FYI

Moto X Pure Edition tips and tricks | Android Central

Motorola has included several ways to activate and deactivate the flashlight on the Moto X Pure Edition, including a clever chopping motion that works even when the screen is off. You can double-chop to turn the flash on or off. But if you activate the flashlight this way and set the phone face-down, the flashlight will almost immediately turn itself off.

It's likely this is a way to stop your flashlight from turning on in your pocket and remaining on long enough to do harm. Once the sensors on the front of the phone detect the screen is against something, the flashlight turns off. If you turn the flashlight on from the quick settings menu, the light will stay on as long as you tell it to.

Now if only it'd do this if left face-up.

A Kansas fan obviously came up with this projectile prone method of activation. Tomahawk!

Re: Moto X Flashlight Gesture

I had the moto x 2nd gen and the flash light gesture worked great. now with the pure edition I'm having a hard time with the chop gesture to turn on the flash light
