Moto X Pure Edition/Moto X Style vs. Nexus 6P

In my use, I think Marshmallow is going to make the battery on the Moto X Pure Edition better. I get a day's worth of (my) use now and I've got Quick Charge 2.0 chargers at work, home, and in the car.

I don't think I can go back to a phone that didn't have Moto Display or Moto Assist's Drive Mode.

I had a Nexus in the past and that obviously got me to preferring the 'stock' feel, but ever since I've owned Moto phones, I am the same as you. Close to stock with the adds of Moto Display and Assist are what I prefer...so naturally I went with the Moto X Pure.

I think I'm going with the Moto X Pure... I have the original Moto X and love the features Moto adds to vanilla Android.

The only thing that had me thinking about the 6P was the fingerprint reader. The thing is, I've never had one so it would just be a minor advantage to me. I'm already used to typing in a PIN.

I pretty sure it's going to be the Pure for me.

IMHO, as a Moto X (2014) Pure Edition owner for the last year... and gone through a couple updates, BUT yet still running 5.1 and not 5.1.1, I really thought going to this device I would see quick updates (it didn't happen folks)... and most people can remember hearing how bad the 5.0 Lollipop update was for the old Pure Edition... Motorola did finally release 5.1, but only after several months (at least 4) of testing... and only recently did we finally get a StageFright security update... Motorola Pure Edition failed IMHO!!!

I knew I would update my phone this year and knew I'd see Motorola's newest phone offerings... so I really wanted to see what the new Nexus devices where going to be like... and after hearing that LG was going to be in the mix with another manufacturer I knew I had to wait. I really liked LG size, but was disappointed that LG was not delivering Google's "Premium" device... or at least have LG offer a more premium version of that size with 64G. And then came the Nexus 6P... all the specs... the fingerprint scanner was a nice to have, but the processor, RAM size, battery size and what sounds like a good camera (I don't need a Samsung level camera, just a good one since I know what Motorola can deliver).

Sorry Motorola, but the Nexus 6P won my business for this year.

I feel the same way about about the fingerprint scanner but from people that have one they really like it.

I can see why you went with the Nexus 6P. My issue it is more expensive (I understand why). For me it doesn't really seem all that much better than the Pure. I am also not a fan of AMOLED screens.

Apples to apples... I ordered the Nexus 6P 64G = $549... if I do the same size in a Moto X PE 64G = $499... that's only $50 more for the Nexus. It's not that much more!!!

The screen can be a big thing for some people. Screens are not always that great on some devices... I was not very impressed with most of my devices over the years when they are outside in direct sun. Most are now really good on ppi that most people can not tell the difference... so it's usually about how they displays colors. I'm not trying to sway anyone... it is what it is... some like one over another. I usually don't have an issue with any one type of display over another.

I have not had a good track record with AMOLED (I always seem to get burn in). The other nice part of the Moto X is that I can expand my storage (Though I am find without the expansion). The other issue is I wanted a Moto X since the beginning but the first one screen was too small and it was 720P. As others have said and people I know that have the older Moto X they love the Moto Assist features. I do know the Nexus 6P has Sense Hub (or something like that)

I am debating on the two just need to figure it out.

It's hard to make a comparison without having either phone. Right now the 6P is my choice. I like the customization of the Moto XPE. The fingerprint reader and USB-C are some of the things that make me lean toward the 6P. I also like the look and build of the 6P a little better. If the Moto XPE had a fingerprint scanner and USB Type -c the choice would be a lot, lot harder.

I was a little confused about USB-C. My reasoning for liking it so much is because of my experience with my Chromebook Pixel. The ease of just plugging it in without fiddling with the connector is nice, and has a solid click when it's engaged. The other thing I like - and the part that confuses me some - is how fast the connector on my Pixel charges. It's just as fast, if not faster, than my Note 5 and Nexus 6 chargers, both of which utilize fast-charging. I once thought that having type-c automatically meant fast-charging and 3.0 but that's not the case. The Nexus 6P has USB-C and fast charging but is only 2.0

I don't really care that much about the faster data transfer, it was the fast-charging that impressed me.

The fingerprint scanner is the other thing I really like on the 6P. I'm not sure how good it will work but I have really gotten spoiled using it on my Note 5 and Iphone 6 Plus. I use mobile payments when I can, and really like it. I also like to use it with my password app, and app store purchases. Originally, the Iphone 6 Plus was the nicest and most convenient way to use all these features for me. Now that a Nexus phone will have these features I really like that.

Battery life I can't judge because I'd have to have both phones. If the Nexus 6P is as good as Google claims, that would be icing on the cake, and push me farther aways from the Moto XPE.

Also the fact that it's a Nexus and will have fast updates, and run the latest version of Android. this is not as big of a deal, since the Moto XPE is pretty close to stock and get's update pretty fast also.

FYI: According to AC's new article Motorola is retire Moto Assist:
Motorola commits to Marshmallow updates for select phones, will retire Moto Assist and Migrate | Android Central

The one lacking feature for me in all Nexus phones has been an microSD card... Even though 6P continued with that trend, I still have to say that I will buy it when in becomes available in my country. I currently have G4, but I really miss owning a Nexus! Skipped on 5 and 6, so I have to own this one!!! :D

What are they claiming the battery life is on the Nexus 6P? I still need to watch the whole keynote (I am afraid when I do I will just buy the phone right then and there lol).

I will admit having a fingerprint scanner will be nice. I am not a fan of the look of the Nexus 6P. I also need to figure out which color. It would also be nice to get the 128GB version but that is a lot of money to put out.

I think they said "all-day".

This is a terribly written something... it does not explain anything, except to say that something in Marshmallow is suppose to do this WITHOUT actually telling us how or where in Marshmallow we can do what Moto Assist did. I guess we shall all just wait and see.

Here is part of it that I think talks about Moto Assist (and the bold is their bold in the something):
Sleeping and Meeting - to keep your phone quiet while you are sleeping or while you are busy in a meeting you may wish to consider using the Do not disturb feature from Android. To set it up, swipe the status bar down with two fingers and tap the gear icon at the top right corner of your screen. Once in the Settings menu, scroll down and tap Sound & notification, then go to Do not disturb. To keep your screen dark while you are sleeping, open the Moto app, tap the icon on the top right corner of your screen, then go to Display and set the time under Keep screen dark.

"...then go to Do not disturb." That was a period after the go to Do not disturb... and do what?

And just one more reason why leaving Motorola will not be as too bad at all.

They are getting rid of some of the features but not all of them.

Maybe you saw something I did not in the article... I thought they said they are removing it from the store also.
...retire them after looking at other options that are already available, both from the Play Store and through Android itself.
