Does anyone have any insight as to whether or not Google Fi will open up to the Moto X Pure since it is supported by all US carriers just like the Nexus 6? This would definitely help my decision to join Fi.

I would post this question on the public Project Fi community on Google Plus. I'm not saying that you will get a better answer there, but someone from Google may eventually respond, as this question has been asked there already.

If they do open it up to non-Nexus phones it going to be a while -- though I don't see why they would. I doubt the 2015 Nexus devices that are coming up will be apart of Fi right away, only because it's easier to debug one model as they're figuring out the beta of Fi, versus multiple phones.

There has been a lot of discussion (including wild speculation and wishful thinking masquerading as "I'm sure ... will happen") as well as a survey on the official Google Project Fi Google+ Community, and the only thing that you can take as fact was a single post that referenced a statement that appeared to be from someone on the Fi team, stating that the only phone supported during the current Early Access ("beta") phase of Project Fi will be the Nexus 6.

Of course, that begs the question as to when the Early Access phase will end, and when Google would start adding support for other phones - but until Google makes an official announcement (perhaps [inserting more speculation here] September 29th at the release of the next Nexuses / Nexii phones might be a good time to check back, and/or at the release of Marshmallow (assuming that will be different than the release of the new Nexus phone(s)?).

Until then, all "we" can hope for is future compatability of the Moto X Pure Edition with Fi (FYI, I answered the survey with an emphatic request that the 2015 Moto X Pure Edition be supported - and fended off at least one troll who effectively accused me of not being enough of a Nexus fanboy).

Google has apparently adopted Apples vision: Control the hardware along with the software.
Benefits include QC, focused support with limited variants.
Being "beta" means we are currently lab animals.
With a compelling economic model; Stomping out the bugs is high priority.
IMO:
We will see most phones capable of utilizing Fi in the near future.
Cost associated with adding the hardware needed is dwarfed by profit expansion possibilities.
While not becoming extinct, Carrier subsidized phones will lose it's killer grip on market share.
My Crystal ball is getting cloudy now........

There is a thread over at XDA that says that an already active Fi sim will work in the Moto Pure. However, it's unclear if it will function on both networks or be able to seamlessly switch between the two.

Folks have been doing the same kind of thing - testing activated Fi SIMs - with the Nexus 5 and with Marshmallow Previews on the Nexus 6, with varying degrees of success. Of course, since the Google Fi team has their hands full getting Fi to work on the Nexus 6, there's probably little likelihood they'll help anyone using Fi on anything except the N6 using supported builds - which is why (given the issues I already have with Fi on the N6) I haven't even considering dropping [more] money on the 2015 Moto X Pure Edition yet (especially since I'll be paying off my 2014 Moto X for a few more months, and my N6 for months after that). The 2015 Moto X Pure Edition is on my wish list, there's just too many other things going on with Fi (and Google/Android - like the upcoming M release) for me to commit to it yet.

Yep, saw it. And it says what I expected it to say - no confirmation of Fi-based network switching, no confirmation of WiFi calling support, and at least he was truthful enough to caveat his conclusions: "And keep in mind that the Moto X Pure Edition isn’t officially supported with Project Fi, so who knows if Google will continue to let this work or other phones activate or if you will see the full benefits of Fi. This post is not me saying, “Yes, the Moto X Pure Edition is supported on Project Fi and you should go try it yourself!”".

So, like I said, I'm still in wait and see mode. At this point I seriously doubt that Google will make any Fi announcements until after the [rumoured] September 29th announcement(s).
