Moto X: Timely Updates

I had the Motorola Atrix. Motorola stated that it would receive the ICS 4.0 update. I waited and waited and nothing. Motorola decided that the Atrix would not receive the ICS update. That's when I decided to jump ship and get the Nexus 4. I am definitely a fan of the Nexus line now.

Motorola took almost a year for the Atrix 4G update, by that time I think we are already on well past 2.6. Expect no less specially when taking carriers into consideration.

What? The Atrix 4g was released in March 2011. Its 2.3 Gingerbread (the last phone update before 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich) was in July 2011. A far cry from a year wait.

That said, Motorola did back out on updating it to ICS at the last minute which left a lot of people with a bad taste in their mouth.

That particular fiasco has made me run to Nexus phones ever since. Also, their were a ton of issues with Gingerbread and Motoblur. It broke my battery meter permanently. Months later Moto releases a statement to not use a usb port to charge if you're below 15% or it'll F up your battery meter. Yeah thanks...

Motoblur looked good on paper but what an utter utter failure. The Atrix 4G is what led me to seem comfort in the iOS ecosystem for some time, and burnt me out of android. I tried android now and then unsuccessfully.

The only phones that will ever receive reasonable updates are Nexus devices, and Google Play edition phones.

All phones tied to a carrier will get updates at the carrier's whim. And unfortunately, our carriers make more money by refusing to update our phones - because then we just buy new phones with the newest software.

So, in my opinion, NO the Moto X will not get timely updates.

Had same experience. Hope Motorola more update conscious now and sticks to commitments on updates.
