Motorola is CLUELESS!

Apple announces original ipad in winter, not available until the spring
Apple announces the original iphone in january, not available until the summer.

It seems apple has a history of having a huge delay time between when a product is announced and when it's available for the first version of that software.

And Motorola/Verizon is likely the second best marketing team out there.

In both of these cases Apple was introducing an entirely new platform. The early announcement of the original iPhone allowed time to build up mainstream hype. Also, give accessory manufacturers time to make... accessories.

As for the iPad, Apple (wisely) announced it well in advance of launch to allow devs time to make apps specifically for the screen size and form factor. This is why there were thousands of iPad-specific apps upon launch.

Google and the rest of the tech industry could learn many things from Apple. Imagine if HP had come out during their webOS event and said the Pre3 and the TouchPad would be available for purchase the next week?

This is from 2009.

Oh... sorry. Anyone reading my posts know I manage my own retirement investments. I get a couple of news feeds every day and a couple of analyst reports on a regular basis. Here's what I know.

One of the news feeds outlined Netflix said from Barcelona they would support the Tegra2 soon.

Instead of explaining... I thought I'd go find news of it. At 11:30PM, I didn't check the date stamp. I just said to myself "Oh, here it is!" and copied the link. The info from the feed must have been from an interview or an informal contact. All I know is the feed is reliable.

What these guys do is set up a network of connections and relationships throughout the industry and report back what they find out. They not inside info guys. They are real "press", but unless you're paying, you'll never see their "blurbs". The service is worth every penny. More than once their insight has allowed be to either profit or dodge a bullet. More the later than the former, but that's really important too. ;-)

Maybe Motorola isn't as "clueless" as this thread indicates...

So about me: I am a District Sales Manager for Sierra Wireless. We make aircards for AT&T, Sprint, Clear, and Best Buy carries their products. I visit all these Corp locations in my region.

I visited two Best Buys today and both confirmed a survey was sent by Motorola asking them their opinion on the device. One of the questions was based on price. They said that the region had a 100% participation, which was extremely rare. Everyone all agreed it was over priced and felt the product would not move off shelves at $799. They said Motorola is quickly going to decided on if they want to launch at that price or lower it.

Hopefully this is good news and we could possibly see a lower price. Either way I'll be getting it at the employee discount, since someone that works for Best Buy is going to hook me up.
This would actually make sense out of the delayed pre-order, as well as the Verizon memo we saw last week about "delayed creative".

While I'm not going to hold my breath, it would be very interesting if the XOOM launch price was less than $799.99. This could also explain why we've seen no official press release or announcement about pre-order, release date, or pricing.

Moto sent a survey to Best Buy

Sure but I think those are the exceptions for new platforms devices. I really don't like Apple but what they do make their fans happy and I'd like some of the same love here from Moto.

HTC & Sprint w/the EVO did a good job of keeping expectations in line. The device had rumors last January, showed up a short time after, was given out at IO, announced with a release date and a price and there it was.

I will hold off on my enthusiasm till I can find confirmation from somewhere. I would have thought that news would at least me as prevalent and the news that it is coming to the Qualcomm devices but I can't find anything.
