Motorola: Moto 360 Smartwatch powered by Android Wear

I haven't seen this yet, but what, if any, sensors do you think will be in it? GPS, accelorometer (sp?), heart, compass? Or will it just use all these sensors on your phone?

Well I have to say and yes this is purely based on images but the Moto 360 is one well designed Smartwatch and it clearly shows great attention to detail.

I would strongly suggest that if this much attention has gone into design then the same level will be put into the software side also.

If the above is correct and it no doubt will be then we have one well thought out Smartwatch (like them or loathe them, you have to admit this is looking and sounding very good indeed)

This coupled with Android wear yes the Galaxy Gear is out of my mind and the Moto 360 is at the forefront ;-)

Sent From the one the only the magnificent Note 3.

I'm not sure there will be much difference between the software of the Moto 360 and the G Watch.

But hardware design-wise, there's a reason why we all seem to be talking much more about the Motorola than we are the LG.

In true Motorola fashion they'll release it in the US first and then the rest of the world when they get round to it.... aka, when it's no longer wanted anymore.

That's Moto's problem and has been for some time, it seems to think the US is the only important market. Google now is very similar too, a lot of features just don't work the same here in the UK.
Thats one good thing about the Lenovo acquisition though, so they have more power to push devices worldwide. But the U.S is still the most important. :P Then UK, then India (big Moto fans), then Aus/China/ect.

I want to know more details about this watch. D: Is it going to be just time/text/maps/ect, or is also going to be part fitness to? 2 or so days of battery seems fine to me, but if its a watch and you hardly use + motorolas optimizations + a os built for wearables + motorola, maybe 4-5 days.

Circular smartwatches are the best form factor because there's the option to rotate the display, unlike square watches.

I hope there's some sort of training to your own voice like Moto X. Saying OK Google and setting off everyone's Android Wear could be hilarious.

Google Glass has a voice training feature so it will only listen to your voice, and I'm betting that in Android Wear, we are seeing much of the fruits of the Glass project, so I think its safe to assume that it will only listen to your voice.

It would be kinda neat if they used some sort of kinetic (like many traditional watches) or solar charging to extend the battery life. I know neither solution would provide enough power to actually charge the device, but one or both could provide enough supplemental power so as to slow the battery drain by a decent amount.

Not a bad idea.

I'm hoping for wireless charging. They don't really show a port on the device (Moto360).

(Moderator note: I split off battery expectations into it's own thread. )

Wireless charging is as good for your device as McD's is for your body. It's just a way for manufacturers to get people to pay for their own planned obsolescence.

Yes....the design alone has the internet buzzing. This is the first time I was actually interested in a smart watch. It looks more like the watches I would wear. It even reminds me of an old Pulsar I had years ago.

I think that's what has people interested more than anything. This actually looks like a normal watch. I've seen the Galaxy Gear in public and it looked pretty awful :p

Why is the back of the bezel purple???

RGB notification light? Perhaps the "purple" on the back?

I don't think a back mounted notification light make a lot of sense. Because (1) you won't be able to see it because it's against your wrist and (2) it looks like the watch face is always on, so there's no need for a notification light.

It is interesting though. The purple on the back seems ... curious. Anybody have any idea?

I'm throwing out a crazy theory. Heat conduction charging. (They did say the charging was a secret or surprise or something like that.)

I think you're in the minority, I've got nothing but compliments on my gear

Really looking forward to e Moto 360.

I bought the Cookoo six months ago. For simple notifications, it's a winner. Got two in fact. I just love the traditional watch shape and the stealth color.

Got the Qualcomm Toq when it came out just a month later. Was stoked. Really great to be able to read all notifications on the watch itself, instead of just blinking notification icons.

The Moto, with a traditional round face and the ability to display notification messages on the watch face, will be the grail smart watch for me. I just hope they will keep the selling price at around 250 dollars. I paid almost 400 dollars including taxes for the Toq when it first came out. I don't think I'll be willing to spend that much again for my next smart watch.

Do you think it might have something to do with the UK's "aggressive" privacy laws that they keep bashing Google over the head with?

This is just a 3D render. It's possible that they didn't bother to create the metallic "material" on the back of the watch, thinking no one would see it, and didn't realize that it reflected in the band. When you create objects in 3D Studio Max, it randomly assigns them different colors to make their easier to distinguish from one another. Just a guess at what happened here.

Yeah, that render definitely shows the back to actually be purple, so I retract my previous theory. If they could come up with a way (in that small of a space) to use your body heat to "trickle charge" the battery, that would be a *huge* win, since it would improve battery life. We tend to give off a decent amount of energy as heat, so this would be pretty awesome.
