Neither. They're both more annoying than useful. Most texts, emails, calls and such are better handled at my choice than the moment they arrive. Instead of being an electronic leash that every one else is yanking, my phone serves me the way I want, not serving me to others for their convenience.

Yes, some senders do have priority interruptions, but the vast majority of notifications are noise.

Turn down the noise.
I like Moto Display because you swipe down as you would have anyway to open the phone, and those notifications are not displayed again that way. Doesn't require any additional action by me if I don't wish to react to them at the time they arrive.

I've also had it set to display notifications from just a select few apps.

I don't feel harassed by it at all.

But I do understand your point of view and why it doesn't work for you.

For me, it's one of several features that helped push the Moto X to the top of my list when choosing my next smartphone.

Moto display all day. I hated it on the nexus 6, after a while it would stop displaying and you'd have to physically move the phone to see any notifications. Flashed more consistently on my Ultra and with Moto you just have to wave your hand to see your notifications. :D

Moto Display is one of the best features of MPXE. Without it Moto X would be more like "another Android phone".

I think it may possibly be because you have "approach for Moto Display" turned on. Just turn that off and it will still flash the screen when a notification arrives. And all you have to do is just nudge the phone or pick it up and then you can unlock/open the screen. The "approach" method is too sensitive for me and that's what I think is causing it to open in your pocket.

I really like moto display but I think they should've updated it for lollipop. As it is you swipe down on moto display to unlock. But if you wake the device to the lock screen then you swipe up to unlock. I think this is a bit inconsistent.

I don't use either. I have a smartwatch, so either feature is redundant. Though if I didn't have a smartwatch, I would enjoy Moto display.

Moto Display. If you don't like the fact that almost anything can turn on the screen (wich can drain your battery), you can turn off the approach to moto gesture, and it will only turn on the moto display when you pick it up.

My only complain would be that I preffer how ambient display looks, I don't really like the kit kat looks on Moto display.
