Move an app from phone to another without PlayStore?

A

AC Question

move an app from phone to another without playstore?

I have an app that is not on "play store" anymore. Its desktop version for both pc and mac can still be found on a net... developer's website is down.
How can I install this app on my new phone?

Back it up from the phone it's on (as an apk file - many apps do that, I prefer App Backup & Restore), copy the apk file to the new phone and run it (running an apk file actually runs the phone's installer, using the apk file as its "load"). If you do it the right way, you should have apk backups of ALL your apps saved somewhere. (What they did to many apps shouldn't be discussed in polite company, which is why I have all my apps backed up - just in case they "improve" an app to the point that it's useless. Apk files are small - you can probably fit thousands on a 200GB drive. I have a folder with 638 of them that only takes a little more than 4GB.)
