Moved to iOS

Never thought Android UI was childish, that's a new one. If anything I think my 8 and 10 year old nieces much prefer using their iPads and iPhones to any of my Android devices.

Now that you mention it I also see more kids using iPhone than Android.

May be childish is the wrong word.
I feel android UI isn’t as polished as iOS or even Windows. Despite having some of the best hardware I simply can’t stick to using android for more than a few weeks. I always end up going back to my Lumia 950. I still have the Lumia. But since I bought the iPhone X o haven’t booted the Lumia yet. So hopefully I’ll stick to your his phone for a while.

Update after a few days with iPhone X:

So far I like the phone very much. Gestures are nice to use and Face ID works every time.
Love the size of iPhone X. It’s perfect size for me

But Siri is way far behind google assistant. Most of the commands that worked flawlessly on google doesn’t work in Siri I wish I can get rid of Siri and put google integrated with iOS
Siri news feed is no good either. So I’ve installed google app and using that for my customized news feed
Camera isn’t too bad. Love how polished iOS looks. That’s my biggest complaint with android
I use my phone a lot while driving. So voice commands are very important to me. Google was a lot better for this. So don’t know how long will I last with this phone. Hopefully Siri gets better soon

Google Assistant is available for the iPhone and it is better than Siri.
Almost everything Android is available on the iPhone and the apps, generally, are better than the Android versions.

Yes. I tried the assistant. But I’d like that to be integrated with iOS. Right now it’s not.
Anyway to use google for voice commands instead of Siri?

Agree to most of your comments. But I just don’t like Android UI. It’s clumsy and looks childish. I jus sold my pixel 2 and bought this.
I really hope Microsoft brings out the surface phone

Childish? I guess you equate the use of colors to childish, because Oreo is far more polished and refined than iOS 11 right now.

I use Siri and Google Assistant both. Basically, if I need an assistant and my phone is in hand, I use Google. If my phone is not in hand and I just want it to answer me, Siri it is.

Assistant sadly isn't as good on iPhone but that is simply due it it being restricted to an app versus a system-wide thing. It is to be expected.

I'm also a former Windows Phone fanboy. How long did you try Android, and what devices, or launchers? The beauty of it is that you can really make it what you want. You want polished, get a launcher like Nova Prime and an icon pack or two so that all the icons have the same shape, you can pick your folder style, and much more. To me iOS is actually far less polished because you're forced to go with whatever they want no matter how stupid it is. The best example of this which still hasn't changed after 10 year is iOS, is that all apps have to show up on your desktop somewhere, and that they're still, even with the iPhone plus models, aligned vertically, meaning you can't align icons closer to your fingers and keep the screen clutter free. You have to always reach up or use the double tap (not sure what the X' equivalent is) to lower half the screen.

Microsoft's launcher also makes things very polished if you prefer that. Anyway, the X is a nice device. It's screen is outstanding and it's incredibly quick. Apps are probably higher quality but more expensive. It's just too bad that iOS hasn't lifted their restrictions on a few stupid decisions made when the phone had 3 rows of icons.

The problem with IOS IMO is the lockdown. Android used to be kinda jerky but now with Oreo and the pixel especially it is smooth as silk. Don't quite understand what is meant by "polished" , more shiny?
The customizations of android is what makes it so popular. I like my Iphone just fine till I get bored with the same look. Besides changing wallpaper that is usually covered in icons what else is there? Really, after ten+ years you'd think they'd relax those restrictions a bit.

I don't know... I mean, it's tough. Apple and iOS have a huge user base of people who just want basic technology that works "out of the box". What Android users love, the deep menu of choices we have, isn't for everyone. What we see as confined, they see as uncomplicated. The untethering that is freedom of choice, can just seem like a sea of headaches and decisions that some just don't want to deal with.

A Samsung device might just drive some of those people mad. You got a Google account, then a Samsung account. Google Apps, Samsung Apps, 3rd party apps ... Features on that phone that aren't on other Android phones, like Samsung Pay.. Different launchers.. on and on.

I know iOS, for me at least, won't be the first choice for my tech. An alternate, at best. But people are different and it's great that Apple makes some great products to help make their users lives work better for them.

Yeah iPhones do work right outta the box, no doubt and as you mention their fan base likes that. But consider the pixel's. They are also designed to work right outta the box. One can customize only if one wants to. But choice is available. Apple gives no choice what-so-ever for something as basic as icon placement. I do like the widget screen tho, but it took ten years to get that. I also hear the fanboys complain about it being to much like android with the widgets. I like my iPhone a lot but man it just gets boring to fast. I won't be getting another one till they relax their restrictions.

I hear ya!

Good luck. I have the Pixel 2 XL and the Note8. I tried the iPhone X for almost a month and a half. It is a cool device but after awhile iOS gets boring, notifications are a mess, I miss widgets, inability to arrange icons, no true live wallpaper, Siri stinks, notification light, AOD and user experience.

I want to enjoy my device, with an iPhone it just doesn't do it for me. I feel like I miss news or tweets or emails when on the iPhone. Every year I give it a shot and every year it is the same. For me it is disappointing. The hardware is great, nice screen, solid camera and iMessage. So my wife has the X now and loves it. Great for her not for me.

Not to poke the flames but it boggles my mind how little the OS has changed over the years. I get it people love it but so much is missing.

Great critique!

Android phones work right out of the box too. I don't change much, hence I love my Pixel 2. I had Android phones up until last year when I bought an iPhone 6s, and I kept thinking why can't I do"x." The lack of driving mode really confused me. And still does. wtf. And then not being able to expand storage and having to pay for it if you want could storage? On top of a phone that is already more expensive that its Android counterparts. No thanks.

Edit- I have an iPad Air 2 I love and an Mac book I still don't understand.

All google storage (g drive) is avail on iPhones as is all the other storage providers (Dropbox, etc).

Yeah you're right. I thought I was locked into Apple stuff when I had an iPhone until my friend told me I could still get Google photos, etc. and I guess I forgot again.

Agree to all your comments
But even with android I felt it’s clumsy and it’s not as polished as iOS or Windows ui. I actually love windows mobile OS.
I hope I don’t end up like you - get bored with iPhone X after a few weeks. I’ve switched about a dozen phones in the last year and a half.

I cannot believe how often some people change their phones - you must be the "cash cows" that the mobile manufacturers love and you are the people who fund development of new phones. I have a year old s7 edge and unless it breaks there would have to be something really special to make me consider changing in less than 2-3 years. As for iOS I never felt totally in control of my device when I had it and it would need to become a much more open system before I would consider it again.
