So t-mobile sent me a brand new MT4G a few weeks ago, I sent them my HTC G2. I like the phone and it has been great but just recently I've been experiencing battery drain and I've noticed that the battery temperature increased a lot. The phone started lagging a bit as well.

I downloaded OS Monitor to see if any apps were causing this. I went through the list all apps were at 0%. However, I did notice that the CPU usage is always around 92-98%. And the very first process is titled "/init" and uses anywhere from 80-94% load. I clicked on the details and here's what it looks like:
Process: /init
Memory: 256k Threads: 1 Load: 92%
STime:277132 Utime: 424258
User:root Status: Running

Could that be the issue?

Not sure what else to check.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A high battery temp (when not charging) is usually not the battery, but the cpu getting hot (no doubt by constant usage). Shouldn't be a problem though, as usually the phone reboots when the cpu overheats.

I suspect, you probably have a corrupted app somewhere. You could do a couple of things.

1. Reboot the phone and see if it persists.
2. Uninstall some of the recently downloaded apps.
3. At the worst, back up your contacts, and do a factory reset. The corrupted app may be a system app, or a branded app that you can't uninstall.

As far as excessive battery usage, check your notifications and system update settings. Set them to manual or a longer frequency between checking and synching. Make sure Wifi is not being used uneccessarily.

Hope this helps.
