OK so here's the story -- picture a bar...a large bar -- now picture 5 large bars with 5 different stages, combine all those bars/stages together and you have the over 40,000 square feet that make up 115 Bourbon St, a bar located in Marionette Park, IL. So that's 40,000 square feet of danger for my MT4G.

So what happened was, this girl I met asked for my phone to put her number into it since it was apparently easier than telling me her number (not). So now I had a decision to make....very attractive girls phone number/risk the danger of letting someone drunk handle my phone, or just pass and move on. So of course I decide I'll take my chances. Sure enough, just as she finishes adding her number after I guided her, she drops my phone. It hits hard... the music was very loud, but I swear for just a moment, everything was silent and I could hear my phone hit the smooth concrete surface.

Now it gets worse -- after it hits, of course the battery ejects and now I need to find the three pieces that used to make up my MT4G in a dark bar with people all around me. Of course...the floor isn't clean either, and there are puddles of alcohol. The main phone part was easy to find, second was the battery (black on black smooth concrete floor...so I got lucky here).....the last piece is the battery cover - and JUST as I see it, some other girl wanders RIGHT over it. She was wearing heels....thank God the heel part did not come down onto the battery cover...her toe part did.

After finally figuring out in my drunken state how the hell the battery goes back into the phone, I was happy she powered up again.

So, onto the damage results: The impact took place on the bottom left corner of the phone. Screen did not crack. The battery cover is in no way bent from the girl who stepped on it. The point of impact has some scuff marks that cannot be seen easily and feels just as smooth as the rest of the phone unless you run a finger nail over it. So, this white plastic frame holds up pretty well and hides damage well. The battery cover does have some light scratches on the left edge...but not bad considering someone stepped on it and drove it into concrete with their foot.

I baby my phones, so this was pretty much worst case scenario, haha.

But I wanted to share this because I'm really amazed at how the phone could take such a hit and come out so well. I'll take some damage photos at some point, but there honestly isn't much to show.

Yea i guess its a testament to the phones quality.

wow, that's crazy , I bet the next time you'll be like "just tell me the number!" I bet you saw your phone drop in slow motion...

I wouldn't let anyone sober handle my phone too much, if someone asks to use it to make a call, I dial the number for them and damn near put it up to their ear for them lol.

Glad to hear your phone held up tho, that would have sucked if it would've broke or cracked...

Oh yeah, did you still get the number??? she owes you big time for her fumble...

Yes - haha, I did get the number and she's aware that she owes me ;)

I don't let sober people handle it either. We were in the club portion of the bar at the time, and it was difficult to hear...which is why it turned into what it did. I also figured if anything goes terribly wrong, I had planned on sending my MT4G back to T-Mobile anyway for one with a better screen.

Because my phone is the white hard plastic, not soft touch like the colors, I was actually able to take some Meguiar's Scratch X and buff out 95% of the few marks there were. I could prob get the rest if I went a little longer, but stopped to check progress. I really looks flawless again now...amazing.

Woah! TOUGH phone! HTC does have some build quality on their phones. LOL this story should be in the NYT

I dropped my myTouch on the treadmill while I was running 7mph. Battery and battery cover flew off, but the phone is in perfect condition. That's HTC build quality for you! Any plastic phone would have dented and scratched like crazy

I dropped mine on asphalt last night.
Glad I have a case on it that caught the impact and dents.

;)

Damage photos! I no longer have this phone, returned it for a MT4G with the "other" screen. But I'm stuck with the scratched up battery plate until I get a replacement. Doesn't really bother me that only the batt plate is scratched though since it can be replaced.

The edge is slightly rough, was only felt with the nail. Above/below those rough "dots" you see were scuff marks I completely buffed out with Meguairs Scratch X. The phone still looked flawless unless you were really trying to observe the mark closer up. Also, that vertical line is not a crack...it's where the plastic molded. Yours has it too, in the corners.

And the battery cover, scratched because some girl stepped on it:
