Multi-phoners‽

I agree… Trust me buying a iPhone in 2020 was the last thing on my mind to purchase. I never was a fan of the OS and still not. It drives me up the wall when I can’t do certain things to my personal settings like I did on the pixel.
However, Apple caught my attention with this form factor. I came from Pixel 3 and clearly I like compact phones. The mini is the smallest flagship phone on the market and it will last me years. Until a Android manufacturer entertain the idea of users wanting something else other than a pocketable tablet then count me out. I do have a Pixel 6 for work which I begged my manager to get me because I didn’t want to carry two iPhones. One is enough! I’m a huge fan of what Google did with the Pixel 6 it’s just so d*mn big.

I agree with you. Because I like smaller phones too, iPhone is on my radar. But I love customization and don't know how I'd feel with an iPhone.

I truly hope Android will get smaller phones with flagship specs -- or, at least, medium-sized phones with flagship specs. Most of the phones out now are way too big for me.

That Asus Zenfone 8 has pretty high-level specs and is considered a petite device.

Which "flagship" specs are most important you?

Ah, Asus... That's one of the brands I want to try, too! That's a long list. Thank you for the reminder -- I knew the 8 was out there but had forgotten about the size. Thank you!

What a question! That has become increasingly harder for me to answer -- but I'll try!

Over time, I've learned that I'd like to have the latest processor. I know mid-range processors are magnificent, but after a few hiccups with mid-range processors, I'd like to go big or go home, in that regard.

Camera has become a big one for me. I use my camera daily -- mostly for photos of my cat or my preschoolers for documentation purposes. Image processing is a big deal to me -- especially with regards to animal fur.

Lastly, portability and customization are probably at a tie. I love customizing my device to my exacting specifications. And I am constantly on the go, so I need a phone that can withstand all of my busyness! And if it can be water resistant, so much, the better.

That's awesome. I know camera is usually something a lot of people look for but it's interesting to hear what other features people find important. Of course, that's the big advantage of Android; choice.

I used to not care so much about camera specs -- so long as it worked, I was happy -- but then I got a Pixel 2 and all that changed! When I had my S10, I LOVED it and the scenic/nature photos were great -- but image processing with animal fur and moving objects just wasn't what I needed.

It's definitely interesting to know what users are truly looking for in a phone! And I think only time and user experience can truly tell you that -- and not just reviews and unboxing videos.

For me cameras are certainly not the primary spec I look for. For me,

1. RAM
2. Processor
3. Battery
3. Storage space
4. Display
5. Camera

...in that order

A device has to perform well and be liquidity-smooth above all else.

It's funny because, as many of you, I used to look at different specs and want the latest or best. When I recently came back to Android and ditched Apple (I still need to sell a few items) i got a Samsung Galaxy A13 5G just to make sure things worked out. They did so I purchased a Pixel 6 to be my main device and the Samsung to be a backup. The thing is, I like the Samsung better! Expandable memory, 3.5mm headphone jack, unbelievable (2days) battery life and it just feels better in my hands. The specs I used to care about have taken a backseat to others. Not sure what to do with the Pixel 6 now.

Cool. With the Pixel 6, you can try different launchers...root it (of you want), and let it be your backup. Also keep in mind that unless you use both simultaneously you're saving the battery on both (because you're charging them less).

I had device without good specs and user experience was not good, so last few years i stayed with device with top specs it just makes the overall experience that much better, at least for me.

I agree. I've tried lower spec'd devices but after becoming accustomed to flagship-class performance I've become...spoiled. I tried to get a Moto G something-something, just to tinker with, and...what a difference.

For me I prefer top specs because I typically only upgrade every 2 years.

I totally agree. I think that's why processor and regular system updates are important to me. Without those things, cameras won't function well.

I carry 2. Personal phone is a P6. Other is a work-provided iP8. Don't particularly like carrying 2, but when my time here is done, I'd rather just hand them back their junk rather than spend time extracting work stuff from my personal device.

I have 3 phones. A Samsung S10+, a Pixel 6 Pro and an iPhone 8+. I use the Samsung mainly for playing a game I can't play on a different phone without losing my progress. It has a lot of space and is still fast but I don't like it as much as my Pixel. I love my 6 Pro. Such an excellent phone. The cameras are phenomenal!

I have the iPhone as I use an Apple Watch. Couldn't find an Android watch that I liked.

I have a Galaxy S10+ and a Galaxy S9.

The S10+ (8GB RAM and 128GB storage version) is my main phone since it has my US number on it, is filled with all my stuff, carries my main SD card, and is also the most powerful phone I own. Seriously, best phone ever still almost a year after I got it.

The S9 is a cheap second hand phone I got last summer (to replace the substandard A6+ I sold to my mom) for use with my Serbian phone number (when visiting family for winter breaks, or in the case of this summer I am in the country for work). It's showing it's age (general wear) and it doesn't help I got a bit ripped off on a battery and earpiece replacement this winter when those parts suddenly went bad and the "repair" shop I went to seems to have put inferior replacements.

So yeah, when I travel outside the US I carry two phones which is necessary since my S10+ is locked to Straight Talk which lacks roaming too.

You have the best of all three worlds, Kizzy! 💜
