Music files not supported? Android music app

Music101 question: Im new to Android and I have a CLIQ.

I just copyied music files from my Windows-based pc the they all copied with no problem. The issue is when I go to play the music I have to force close the app repeatedly then I get an error message saying "sorry player does not support this type of audio file".

Is there an app available to convert files or did I mess up the path in someway that the songs, all mp3's btw, just aren't being located properly?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I had all of my music from CDs saved and when I copied them to my Samsung Infuse I got the same error message. :'(

How are the MP3's encoded (bitrate, etc)?

Path doesn't matter. The system will scan the SD card for media files.

Consider trying another music app as well.

My guess is that you are trying to play WMA (Windows Media Audio) files, not MP3 files. The standard Android music player does not support WMA. I use BoomBoxoid to play my music collection because it supports all WMA files. You may also want to try MortPlayer. It plays most WMA files. Both are free. PowerAmp also plays all WMA files, but it costs $5.18.

My files have all come from CDs and are all saved as .mp3 or .m4a, but none of the songs will play.

Did you try downloading another music player app like MortPlayer or BoomBoxoid?

I called Samsung and fixed the media player problem

What I had to do to get my media player to play my MP3 files was
1.) Connect your infuse to your computer via mass storage.
2.) Open up your DCIM file on your phone
3.) Create a "My Music" folder inside DCIM
4.) Move your music files inside this folder and this should fix the problem. Just disconnect from you computer and use your media player.

This does NOT work the SAMSUNG rep was wrong and I am now on my 3rd infuse with the same issue

We need more info about the problems you're having, i.e. name of your device, which version of Android, what type of music files you're trying to transfer. Transferring music is actually very easy, so there are plenty of solutions. You just have to understand that not all media players can play every single music format, and some music that is copy-protected can't be easily transferred.

It has been easy with every other phone ive ever used, EXCEPT my brand new galaxy S4. It will not play mp3 files, they are not wma files and when u put a mp4 in there it asks to convert it. Yet no player will play them?! ive tried 6 different music player apps. There is an issue or a bug here because everyone is experiencing the same issue. SOmetimes the phone magically deletes everything in the music file too. Ive tried having the music file in with the lost.dir and android, ive tried making a sub folder in all of these folders, nothing works! sometimes i will get 1-2 albums out of the 30 i put on there play for a day then they are gone

Was a solution ever found to this issue? I have been simply trying to take my CD's and put them on my S3 with exact same results you have gotten... It makes no sense that I can't put my own CD's. on my device. What gives?

Considering No one has figured it out what to do, as a last resort, if you must (assuming you're using an SD card) reformat it. Try NTFS. That's what my SD Card is and it reads and writes perfectly.

I think the only reason there haven't been any recent answers is that it's considered bad form to dig up such a mouldering corpse. (A month is usually the point at which it's considered polite to allow the thread to rest in peace.)

If the files are being transferred by some content-aware program, that's probably the problem. They aren't mp3 files by the time they get to the phone.

If they aren't, post #3 answered the question.

Some songs are recognized on my Galaxy Note 2 but when i play them it says"Sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file" Or it plays the first 3 seconds of the song then skips to the next one i tryed VLC For android and Realplayer it doesn't work but plays fine on my laptop

I just purchased a Samsung Galaxy S4 yesterday and want to put all my music on it All of my older music that has been in my itunes has been playing. The ones i have recently downloaded are not playing and its giving me the "Sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file" message. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong. I would really like to add a lot more music that has just been released onto my phone.
