Music missing and not playing on Android

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of moving from apple to android to have borrowed my friends S5 to see if i like it. So far its pretty good but i'm struggling with my music. I have a 60gb iTunes library but usually i only have around 20gb (2600 songs) on my iphone. I've tried to get this on to a SD card in the S5 but i keep having problems. Here's what I've tried:

1) sync iTunes using Syncr. - This put most of the music on the phone but android wasn't showing it all. ES file explorer only showed 400 songs, CloudPlayer only showed 776 and Poweramp showed most of them but they had unknown artist and unknown album. Because of the Unknown Artist and Album issue i have gone into iTunes and converted the ID3 tags.

2) sync iTunes using Doubletwist airsync - This seems to have put all of the music on the SD Card however ES File Explorer is only showing 1506 songs, Cloudplayer showins 397 and is trying to import 1005 more, Poweramp is showing 2423 songs but still have unknown artist and unknown album, also some songs will not play, there is no error message displayed.

So i'm at a loss of what to do any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Nick

Re: Music missing and not playing on Android

Welcome to Android Central! It might be an issue with AAC vs MP3 compatibility. My suggestion would be upload the entire iTunes library to your Google Play Music library in the cloud (you can store up to 50,000 songs for free). Then you can access that music from any device logged into your Google Play Music account, either via streaming or via local download.

Re: Music missing and not playing on Android

can i download the whole library to my android device or is it all streaming?

Re: Music missing and not playing on Android

You could download the whole library if you have enough room. I believe you can select the SD card for downloads on the S5. But keep in mind that local downloads are for use by the Google Play Music app only--you won't be able to use 3rd party music apps to play the music, nor will you be able to copy the files elsewhere.

Re: Music missing and not playing on Android

Personally, I would skip trying to do something so massive in one step. Download your iTunes library to a PC and scrub the data with an MP3 tag program to make sure your data is complete and correct. Once you are sure that is correct, connect the phone to your PC and upload the data directly to a folder on the SD Card called "Music" or something.

That way, any music app and even Google Play Music will be able to read it and all of your music will be local instead of streamed. If that's the way you want to go.

Re: Music missing and not playing on Android

can you suggest a program to scrub the data? im on a mac. my library is a mix of mp3 and m4a so i'm guessing i will need to convert the m4a files?

Re: Music missing and not playing on Android

One minor issue with converting m4a to mp3 is that there will be a slight loss of fidelity in the conversion process. That's another advantage of uploading to Google Play Music--Google will match your song with the original song in its vast library (assuming it's present) and use that track, rather than converting your m4a to an mp3.

Re: Music missing and not playing on Android

Guys! Thank you for all your help so far. So i've managed to get it to all show by dragging it to the SD Card. the only issue i have is the stock music player will not play any songs with broken ID3 tags (they show as unknown artist). I've gone through and tried to fix them. Some are working and some aren't. Does anyone know a good app for Mac which can identify issues and help resolve them? The only way i can currently identify the issues is by look at which ones have unknown artist and then trying to fix the tags using a MP3Tag through Wine.

Thanks

You can try and use Music Doctor to help fix your ID3 tags directly on your android device. It will help you quickly identify the unknown artists. Just search for Music Doctor on Google play.
