Music Player App Issue

So I recently upgraded from an LG Cosmos Touch to a Samsung S3 and I love it. But I keep having this issue with the default music player app. I recently transferred all 400 of my songs from various computers to an external sd card for my phone. Usually it plays my music just fine but once in awhile I get the "Sorry. Music Player cannot read the format of this song" error message, so I downloaded the ReScan Media app and then it worked fine. But then this morning I got the same error message and the Music app just went ahead and deleted about 20 songs from my SD card without so much as a warning message. What is going on? Is it my phone?

I got very frustrated with the stock music app. I downloaded PowerAmp and never looked back. Its plays all kinds of formats. You can even play videos like audio tracks. Great widgets too. You can tweak it to match your style and audio tastes. Give it a try.

You could be running into a (unfortunately rather common) problem with the phone reading the SD card. I saw one post where the user suggested that Settings -> Developer options -> Protect SD card helped, but I haven't done that myself.

Or it could just be the stock music player.
