Must pay for hotspot just to access WiFi?

So this is taken from the fine print at the bottom of Sprint - HTC EVO™ 4G and I assume if it was a typo it would have been corrected by now:

The exact text says:

"Sprint Mobile Hotspot add-on required to access Wi-Fi on device."

Has anyone seen Sprint say that is wrong?

I could see it being that if you wanted to access the device via wifi that it requires the add on. Where as if you want the device to access a wifi network - I don't believe that is how I read it.

They do really need to clarify it a little better.

Oh i see what you mean Golpher, now i read that as you must have the addon for OTHERS to access WIFI on the device, but not for the EVO to access wifi.

So they should have also put in disclaimers for accessing the bluetooth and USB- why single out WiFi?

How so?

It clearly says WiFi won't be accessible without the hotspot add on. If someone thinks they mean tethering, it's fair to point out that WiFi is not the only way to tether...

I think they mean that other devices (Laptops, ipad, etc) won't be able to access the WiFi on the device (Evo 4G) and use it as a hotspot, unless you pay the fee. They said "Sprint Mobile Hotspot add-on required to access Wi-Fi on device.", with ON THE DEVICE being the key words. It doesn't say the device can't acccess WiFi. If you use WiFi at home, you aren't using their network and they are saving money.

It's clear you are anti sprint or htc or someone, but this is picking out too much. Sprint has advertised the wifi access already and i'm sure it's not something they can restrict you from using. Wifi is apart of the device which HTC created. Your assumption is as good as assuming Sprint can disallow the use of the camera.

Wifi on the devices have practically become a standard.
Either way thanks for pointing this out but even if they were to disallow the use, it's android... someone will crack it and enable it. And someone will crack to enable the hotspot.

Some of the many devices I have owned over the years include a Sprint PPC-6600, Sprint PPC-6700, Sprint Mogul, and my current Sprint Touch Pro 2. I have also owned an AT&T Tilt, an AT&T Fuze, and a European Touch Pro 2.

It's pretty safe to say I'm not anti Sprint, and certainly not anti HTC either. I just call it like I see it...
