Must you have ultra-wideband?

Just ordered the S21 256GB Verizon model and starting to think I might reconsider based on the S21 not having ultra-wideband. Does anyone here live in a city with ultra-wideband and is it useful for you? I don't live in the city and there's probably no chance of getting ultra-wideband where I live any time soon, so am I overreacting? Not crazy about the lower screen resolution vs S20 but I'm sure the S21 display will still be spectacular.

Isn’t UWB also going to be used for letting you use your phone as a key to open and start your car?? I’ll be in the market for a car in year or so and that would be cool. Also I hope by then wireless Android Auto will be more common.

It's not 100% clear at this point, but I'm sure some features will be unavailable without UWB like your card opening when you grab the door and your phone is near(like it does with smart key access). Have UWB is cool though when it comes to finding things. Tried the feature when locating one of my phones using another phone and not only does it point you in the right direction of the item it can also show you if it's behind another item like a pillow or couch cushion. Pretty convenient for me as I'm always misplacing things once I get home lol.

So none of the S21's even the Ultra will have this UWB. I like the part about find your car in a crowded parking lot with AR Viewfinder.

According to the specs, the plus and ultra both have UWB. i can't see me ever using it.

So maybe this can help provide some insight as everyone on thinks of UWB as it pertains to carriers 5g networks, but it has many more benefits beyond that. Think of it as being a more faster pathway for data transfer between two devices. It can help you find things more accurately as well.
Oh Ok I didn't really understand it but I probably wont be using it neither.

Personally, I'm mostly thinking of it's none carrier applications.

I don't drive, so I won't be using it as a car key. I can't see me spending money on smart tags Pro so I won't use it for that... The ability to point your phone at people and send them a file sounds cool, but i don't really see it happening much. Which is why I can't see me using it.

Thanks! Yes when I hear UWB I thought it had to do with Verizon and 5G I don't know.

Understandable because Verizon does such a good job with marketing. They are the Apple of carriers. Remember the Droid branding? They had everyone uneducated calling their android a Droid(which isn't technically wrong) lol

Yeah, I was definitely referring to usage as ultra-wideband network technology to get super fast data speeds. I had no idea about the other uses of it.

It depends how established Verizon's ultra wideband mobile network is in your city, town. Its not nearly as prevalent in a lot of places like LTE is now. Most feel its still a few years before 5G is a must have.

I'm on Verizon prepaid and 5G wideband is available, but not everywhere in my area. So I went with the unlocked model that will supposedly still get the low band 5G.
