My Bionic

XD is A emoticon / symbol with X being the eyes and D being the mouth, to make a seeming of the person having squinched eyes and a mouth wide open laughing. This is usually used to replace rofl, as the X for eyes indicates that they are laughing so hard they may have fallen off their chair.

XD that's what I knew it as but I thought it could have been some other geeky lingo or abbreviation I didn't know of yet. Thanks!

Thank you for all the time you put into educating all of us about this new device. I also happen to work for verizon and will be happy to give any info that comes along. I have not received any droid bionics however I have received posters and some accessories . I think you coverd about every base possible so we have a real ggod idea that this will be a phone with very strong performance in terms of call quality, internet performance and processing power for apps.

I am a big moto guy based on their call and build quality I have a droid x that takes a beating and keep's on ticking even with water damage.

This looks like it's going to be the first real solid 4g phone to come to big red. It will do everything well and will hol a charge for more than 10 minutes. The 4g radio made by moto as stated is gen 1 but I bet it has things that no other gen 1 lte has had as of yet and will probably be competitive with 2nd gen 4g radios if released by other manufactures in the next few moth's. You figure it's better than the reciver than what will be in the sg2 coming out so it would work in a slim design when the time comes I bet apple would pay bucks to have this radio in their phone.

I know some new phones like the vigor and prime will come out and they will be better on paper and may even be better in performance but I think the difference will be negligible. The thing I doubt about the other phones is their 4g radio's being better than moto's. On benchmarks these phones will strive to hit better number but I will be surprised if any of them make a better integration of all that power in terms of real performance such as toggling apps while dowloading data steaming music all at one.

We will see soon enough how right I am but it looks like the sg2 will be negligible in performance and the vigor has a chance to stand out but we will see.

I've said it once and I'll say it again: If it looks, feels, and performs fast without noticebale lag, those benchmarks don't mean a hill of beans. Fast is fast and I think bworley50 has demonstrated the Bionic passes the user experience speed test. I'd say that's a pretty damn good start for the Bionic. Confirmation of that result will be determined by your own user experience not Quadrant's. Screen preferences are also based on perception.

I like Super AMOLED and thought I could never own a phone again without it. It was my biggest concern when I made the decision to buy the Thunderbolt. It did take some getting used to but after using it for a few days I liked it equally as much, if not more.

All the marketing numbers, specs, opinions and debates are fun but what you think after you've used it is the only thing I personally care about and will be watching. If one of them has a chronic GPS issue like my beloved Fascinate, it will be game over for me.

That said, which phone has the most bugs is the metric that I'll be watching and nobody knows what that list will look like yet.

Thanks for everything so far, it has just reinforced me wanting this phone even more. :)

Have you had a chance yet to test out the headphone jack? See if it's still having the same problems that the droid line seems to have with a loose connection? Thanks in advance!

I wae told that the Thunderbolt can do voice and data at the same time.
I wasn't sure of this was a Thunderbolt exclusive feature, or do all 4G phones have this capability?

I'd like for the Bionic to have this feature as well.

All 4G LTE phones can do voice and data at the same time IF connected to the LTE network. The Thunderbolt is the ONLY LTE phone that can do voice and data simultaneously while connected to only 3G.

Will the other phones have the ability to do it over 3G with a software update, or is it hardware related?

It's hardware related. Has to do something with SVDO I believe.

Edit: Here's an explanation about it from AnandTech: "I suppose now is as good a time as any to delve into the dual transceiver situation on the Thunderbolt. The two transceivers I speak of are the MSM8655?s built in cellular baseband (like all Qualcomm SoCs, you get a modem for free), and the MDM9600 which sits at the heart of every single other Verizon LTE product except the LG VL600 data card, which uses LG?s own L2000 chipset. If you want the short story, the Thunderbolt fully supports simultaneous CDMA2000-1x voice and 3G EVDO or 4G LTE data. The way this is done should already be somewhat obvious - the MSM8655 gives the Thunderbolt a continual free CDMA 1x connection for voice, SMS, and slow data, and the MDM9600 does all the 3G EVDO and 4G LTE data heavy lifting. What this boils down to is real SVDO (Simultaneous Voice Data Optimized) and SVLTE (Simultaneous Voice and Long Term Evolution data)."

bworley50,

Just wanted to say thank you for the glimpse into the future for me and my Bionic. The videos and messages have been amazing.
Karma was smiling on you as your Tigers won last night. ;)

I did. Works great! Will video that too. What song do you want to hear?

All the comments on the screen and other functions are very important. Most normal guys will have this phone for 2 years and we need to make sure the bionic will make us happy for that time especially when the sgs 2 is running for 199.99 with 4g. If you want my opinion the whole price increase is verizon trying to pay off there LTE upgrade.

Probably the case but if i phone pushes to be 200 for say i phone 6 and is 4g they will have no choice but to decrease the price on the droid phones. If not everyone will buy a iphone and vz and every other carries subsidize more for the i phone than any other phone. I don't see 300 being the new standard they are trying but this will not last.:-*

Not many people want to pay more than $200 for a good phone, no matter what. So I don't see it lasting very long either. It should be cheaper soon, it's just that LTE radios are not being produced as much, but when they are, the prices will drop.

Isn't that kinda the way its supposed to work? I mean if they dont charge for newer tech or no one is willing to pay extra for newer tech, why would they invest in upgrading anything? I mean why even bother building a network thats any better than 2g if no one is going to pay for it? Gotta make money somehow.

Easy, to keep customers. You think Verizon would be 'Big Red' if they weren't keeping up or even staying ahead of other providers? Charge the customers more or not, they HAVE to stay up to date or they'll lose customers.... but they'll also lose customers if they charge too much. Its a delicate balancing act.

Because costs go down over time as tech increases.

Prices drop fast on short lifespan tech, it just depends where you buy.

Example, a new best buy mobile store opened near me around march, and one of their specials was an atrix for $49 with 2yr contract.

Non corporate stores have no motivation to keep handset prices high beyond the terms of their contracts with providers.

A 40" HDTV used to be like $4,000 lol. It's now like under $1,000. New technology is always more expensive, and then costs go down as they're produced more.
