My "call log" does not show missed calls.

I have noticed two things. People say they have called me and I missed the call, yet this "missed call" does not show on the call log.
I have seen that I missed a call and I have a voicemail message from a person, yet the call does not appear on the call log.
Is there a way this can be corrected?
