My Droid X constantly drops down to 1X, rarely has 3G

i had this problem when i first got the phone and was using it on the initial charge

once i charged it fully, it went away for the entire weekend, and then today the problem came back

just installed the update, definitely didnt fix it

Same here. Update and reset did not fix. About to send this thing back, my 3gs had better signal which is very sad.

UPDATE: VZW said there should be a fix implemented tonight and that they are aware of the issue. Whatever that means.

Mine still has yoyo bars and dropping 3g everywhere. Wish I could find an exchange phone. This thing is just about to get returned.

this is strange, if i turn off wifi my 3g comes back on, if i turn on my wifi the 3g goes away?!

3G is an internet connection. If you have a better signal on WiFi why would it keep the 3G going. Its not like GSM where the calls and internet are part of the same signal range.

I really wouldn't know if this is really the case, but I wouldn't be surprised if a wifi connection disables 3g.

I was on T-mobile before so can't compare it to other devices on Verizon, but I've only ever seen mine on 1x once and that was going through an area between two hills where Sprint, AT&T and T-mobile all completely drop signal.

T-Mobile is GSM so both internet and phone abilities can be used at once. On Sprint or Verizon its CDMA. So it has to switch between Internet or phone. On My Storm 3G with BB is 1XEV, 3G no BB is 1Xev, and no 3G is 1X. If I take a phone call and go to home it goes from 1XEV to 1X. It would make sense that if it represents the loss of 3G like that, that by having Wifi on and detected it would turn off 3G to save power since 3G for Verizon is internet only. It might also explain if the DX does that and not the Dinc, that it might be a reason why people have so many battery life issues on the Dinc.

Oh, yeah, well, when wifi is on, 3g obviously is disabled.

I assumed he meant that turning wifi on and then off fixed his 3g problem.

Are any of you that have this problem also having issues with your GPS? My GPS is totally screwy at times, and puts me a couple miles away.

verizon is sending me a replacement handset

i still have a hunch that its a battery problem somehow, but this will cover all bases

I dont know how I fixed my problem, but I have been on 3g all day, knock on wood.

I just reprogrammed the phone. Did a *22890 send then waited. Anyone else want to try.... BTW that is the code that we use on BB's and regular feature phones to program them for the first time out of the box. Android you have to do differently as you dont have access to the keypad until after activation.

I haven't heard of that code before. Is it the same as *228 option 1 (activation) or *228 option 2 (update roaming capabilities)?

So I called Verizon, they made me do a factory reset (or I wouldn't be able to get a replacement [I didn't want to do it]), and it seems to be working right now. I have seen it go back into 1X where it shouldn't, so I'll probably just get the replacement because I can. Also, I'm going to the update tonight and see if anything gets better.

Thanks for all the info everyone.

I seemed to have better 3G in general this AM, but sitting here at my desk where my 3GS had solid 3G, all I have is a solid 1X. I mainly stream XM while here and it won't even connect. I give it 12 hours then I give up. Sigh.
