My email on Galaxy S3 is inconsistent- emails disappear or don't come through. Why?

my email on Galaxy S3 inconsistent- emails disappear or don't come thru

I may receive an email and don't open it. A few minutes later I go back to open it and it's gone. Not anywhere to be found, Also happens on some that I have opened. I go back to show someone the email and it is gone. checked all folders
Another issue is I get duplicates of the same email.
Another issue is it reloads old emails. It may say that I have 99 new emails.
Part of problem may be that I have to go thru gmail.
I;m so frustrated and afraid I am not getting all my emails
Can someone help? My main email is Roadrunner

Welcome to Android Central! Open the Email app, tap Menu>Settings, select the Roadrunner account, and remove it . Then add it back again, and see if the problems persist.

If they do, you could consider using the Gmail app instead. You can add other email accounts now to the Gmail app.
