My Epic's problem is Sprint's problem

I tried both settings and went back to Auto. It was even worse on Sprint only.

Oh ok. Sorry to hear. Poor signal was the reason I switched from Sprint years ago. I moved to an apartment 2 blocks aways from my previous so I never thought about it. Well I couldn't hold a call longer than 2 mins in my apartment. I immediately dumped them and went to VZW. But now I'm back as I am in another city and get good coverage.

They should be able to do something. If the long term costs are considerably chearper I would purchase the airave and see if they can wave the 4.99 monthly fee. I know the 99.99 hit up front seems a lot but they may be cheaper than going to another carrier in the lnog run if their costs are higher especially with all the stuff you get with Sprint already included.

But good luck with either way you go.

The Airave is only free for people that have been with Sprint for over 30 days.

Airave doesn't offer EVDO Rev. A. So, you'll want wifi at home in order to get good wifi reception.

Honestly, if you barely get Sprint and no 4G, just switch to another carrier.

Yeah that's true. But to use airave you need the internet anyway. And a person should already have wifi setup if they have DSL or broadband. And if they don't it's not like it's expensive or difficult. So in my opinion if you have airave you should already have a good wifi signal.

New Airave actually does support EVDO Rev. A. You just have to make a point out of asking retentions for the new one.

Get a google voice account. Give people that number.

If you don't have a house phone, have it ring your Skype if you don't pick it up on your cellphone.

Heck, you could even get a magicJack for cheaper than switching carriers. There are a lot of options nowadays for people with poor service or move a lot. After I had been with sprint for about 35 days, I called and got my free airrave/waiver. Has worked like a charm ever since.

I thought about all of that too. But figured screw it... they obviously don't want me enough and I'll just get a G2 with HSPA+ in less than a month. I have loyalty pricing on my T-Mo account, unlimited everything for $80

Its true sprint used to give out free airaves, but they aren't anymore. They are not authorized to give them away under ANY circumstance now, they have to let you cancel. You can pay for one still though.

Not! I JUST recv'd a Airave 3 days ago, for FREE.

They don't want to give you a free airrave when you are off contract, because then you can cancel, keep the airrave and abuse the system. after 30 days, they will be more likely to give it to you.

Somtimes, if you have terrible coverage, carrers will let you end the contract without an etf, so I think this is why sprint prefers to give everyone with bad service an airave.

I was trying to do this backwhen I had the Instinct, but sine the map said I was covered, they didn't let me. I waas so ticked I went to At&t after canelling...but then I came back two years later and I have great reception. Cr3amy, where do you live again? I lived off of Coldwater and tmo was the worst carrier by far. A flat out "no service" was displayed everywhere I went. I bet you have good tmo reception though as you were considering it the whole time. Please do me a favor though: if you leave the Epic, pm me your thoughts on the g2. I love to hear regular customer thoughts on phones, no matter what company.

Does Tmobile have free GPS on the G2? (I guess Google Navigation only?)

Not having to pay for Navigation is abig thing for me- and I never thought I'd like having Sprint NAV and google NAv on the same phone- but actually I do use both! I suppose that alone isn't worth a weak connection though. Bummer about the airrave- I'd have to admit if I was in your boat- I'd probably hold out for the G2 as well- but when I had Tmob in LA- I dropped calls 3times in 30 miles in 2 commutes on 2 different sides of town. When I had verizon and sprint- I rarely dropped calls for months.

That said- my parents in Long Beach HAVE an airrave- and complained of problems whenever they left home- so they went to Verizon and never complained since...but I never did check to see if their phones were set to roam...if available LOL!

airave is nice but why pay for the privilege to use your own broadband connection to set back a hole in sprints coverage. if calls and data through it were free then itd be worth it

I live in West Hollywood between Santa Monica and Fountain, near La Cienega. The fact that there are holes in coverage around here (as proved by Sensorly) is ridiculous and almost unforgivable. T-Mo only has issues in the less densely populated areas, like parts of Malibu and parts of the hills, but I'm not too concerned since I'm usually just passing through those areas.

i just received a airave free and got all the fee's waived. Went from having 0-1 bars to having 4-5 all the time around the house, this is awesome!

Instead of even bothering with the Airave why not just get your own cell booster. This is a good option for your situation with Sprint. Yes it's more of an investment than the Airave but you don't need internet to operate it and the monthly fees aren't an issue.

Got my Epic today (had to go to the post office today because those r-tards don't know what the hell they're doing) and I love the phone and everything about it.

Except that I don't get any bars in my bedroom. Even my living room, which is basically at the street, it only gets one bar.

I have absolutely no idea why, in the middle of one of the more densely packed parts of West Hollywood, Sprint doesn't have towers covering a 5 x 1/2 block area. I checked Sensorly... Looks like Sprint lost themselves a convert and I'll be picking up a G2 this month.

I used to live down there, and I'd have no signal at my house. At the bottom of the hill, full signal.
