So my evo was in my front pocket and decided to jump in the toilet. I switfly took an extended lunch and ran to best buy to use my insurance. While there the lady informed that that they did not have anymore instock until the next day. I could try something else. So I said let me try the white S3.

So far i miss the build quality of the evo, the s3 does not compare.
Evo stand out: screen in daylight, kickstand build quality just feels great in the hand. Speed w/o sense

S3 screen just pops, a lady friend look at it was ahh, multimedia it plays files natively that the evo would need a third party player to play. and multitasking is as it should be. rooting was twice as easy. The front facing camera is waaay better. I hated the pics the evo front facing cam would take. the rear

I can see why the s3 is so popular. Even though the Evo/oneX has the potential to be the Supier device the evo drops the ball with the lag of sense

The S3 is popular because its a good device and Samsung has 1000x the budget to market it. I tried it in the Sprint store, HATED the physical button and the overall look of it compared to the Evo. Functionally I am sure its great. I'm enjoying my Evo.. enjoy your S3. :)

Your whole post made me giggle my butt off... I had no sleep and idk what I was laughing at :-\

I say just get your EVO back. It will turn into a better phone.

I agree... I held out deciding what I wanted to get until the S3 was officially announced and I just didn't like the overall design they decided to go with.. The physical button and rounded off shape was just ugly (in my opinion) I like the more square/true candy bar look of the EVO and I had the original EVO so it was a natural choice I guess.. I think HTC makes some good hardware and they did a great job on the One X/EVO I love it so far... I played with the S3 in the Sprint store well after I had my EVO and it's nice.. I just think it's ugly for the most part.... Why go with the physical button??? Not like Samsung hasn't been accused of copying Apple products before but that home button almost seemed like an attempt to be like the iPhone with it's physical button... I am glad they decided to go with a S3 that was pretty much exactly the same across all carriers... I only hope that with the new "NEXUS" line of phones suppose to come out later in the fall that we can get true pure Android on more devices across all carriers and a more uniform (Apple/iPhone) upgrade schedule instead of waiting for carrier specific upgrades to roll out over time...

Haha, that's what happened to my og Evo. It fell in the toilet so I bought the Evo Lte, and then the Gs3.

Seems like you discovered pros and cons in both devices and ultimately the one that fit your lifestyle.
By the way, why did your Evo try to commit suicide? You mistreat it? Call it names? Bend it?

I am really happy with my evo. I had the opportunity to check out the gs3 at best buy and I do believe that is a great phone, but I do not like that physical button at all. I did think the screen was nice, I happen to like those saturated colors, but the whites are bluish. A you tube video played louder at full volume setting tan the evo, just something I noticed, and although I'm not a fan of touchwiz, it did seem scaled down. Despite its bugs, I left best buy feeling confident in my choice with the evo.

I never get tired of reading posts by obviously mature and emotionally balanced people.
That might be the most honest assessment in this forum I've read on the Evo vs S3.
I hope you're happy with your Evo Lte.

It's so refreshing to read s3 vs Evolte posts on this forum compared to macrumors. LoL

Just don't go posting a fair and balanced opinion over on the S3 forum. You'll be called a troll and asked to leave. :p Those guys are a touchy bunch over there.

They're both great phones. If you could combine the software functionality of the S3 with the hardware of the EVO, you'd have the perfect phone, IMO. Since I love to tinker and flash ROMs and mods anyway, the EVO is a no-brainer to me. The form factor and overall design just speak to me in a way that the S3 does not.

yup, they sure do market it well that's for sure, they need to put some of that marketing budget into better gps chips and radios, not sure if the gsIII is any better (I've heard it's really not) but my pos gsII doesn't hold a candle to my og Evo 4G is respect to gps and radios

I have both phones and the s3 locks gps faster then the evo and the bluetooth works better on the s3 then the evo. the evo build feels better but I had to bend mine back several times when I had it. I landed on my s3 when this happened. Couple of small scratches. So I think the build quality is about the same. I have to say if the evo multi tasked the right way
The evo would be my daily driver

There are territorial types on both sides. It's just refreshing to hear someone balanced and secure enough to tout the strengths of a device he/she decided not to purchase.
I agree with your assessment of the ultimate super phone.

Evo lte was my first choice as well, but after HTC turning its back on me regarding the multitasking fiasco and stating that they were no longer concentrating on my market, I decided that this performance didn't warrant my $200+.
Mind you, I got them funds tucked away for if and when HTC comes to their senses. They obviously bumped their heads at some point.

I think the S3 has improved in those areas. I have S2 and my wife S3. Her device outperforms mine. Her gps locks on immediately. My S2 still struggles for minutes to lock. If at all. Though the signal on her S3 does vassilate from time to time but she's had no dropped calls.
Seems like an improvement. But we're still testing.

Maybe I'll cop an Evo and make my first foray into flashing a rom. I'm conflicted. I know nothing about flashing ROMs, but if that would allow my Evo4GLTE to fly freely, I'd be all over it.

Development is still in an early stage so far for the EVO. Right now, there are a bunch of Sense-based ROMs that do very little to truly differentiate themselves. You pick and choose from the ones that implement the mods that are important to you - quick settings menu, button re-mapping (gets rid of the hideous three-dot menu bar), performance tweaks, etc.

There are none that fully address multitasking (with two exceptions, and I'll get to that). There are definitely improvements out there, but not a complete solution. To be fair, kernel source was only recently released, so the devs haven't had a chance to work any real magic in that area.

There are two ROMs based on the stock Android ICS source code (generally referred to as AOSP): AOKP and CM9. They completely solve multitasking and unleash the true potential of the hardware. Problem is that they are not quite fully functional yet - see note about kernel source above. One of those will be my personal choice once they are ready for prime time.

I'd encourage you to spend some quality time over on XDA to familiarize yourself with some of the ins and outs of the ROMs and mods that are available right now.

EDIT: Why is it that just about every thread turns into EVO vs GS3 and/or multitasking? :p

Cause if the evo did not have the multitasking issue I don't think many people could come up with issues on the evo other then it's "ulgy" and it lags a bit but with two devices that are so close on the performance... Screen size... The normal person is going to second guess the decision they made and need some one on a "technology fourm" to validate their decision. I bought both and found the one that works for me. That phone just happens to be the s3.... Enough with the nice nice.... Off to troll the other threads.

OK imma need all the above in English!
You sound well versed in all things rom/ram, flashing. I'll definitely need counseling if I decide to take that plunge. And like you, I'd need the mid that eradicated the multitasking issue yet not add any more bugs. A finished product. So I'll wait for that.
I use my mobile for business and find myself opening various spreadsheets and word documents, for editing, while sending emails, texts and fielding/placing phone calls.
So multitasking has to be solid. It's solid on my S2, but I've had issues with gps tracking addresses and dropped calls.
I might just jump on an Evo if the rom is eventually polished.
You're right about the S3 vs Evo comparison/contrast comments that pop up in every thread. And by now, the EVO LTE is infamous for the multitasking fiasco.
But when's the last time Sprint had two so compelling devices at the same time?
I just wish HTC hadn't waived the white flag so quickly. Had HTC stayed and fought the good fight here in the states, it would have been an exhilarating battle for the hearts and wallets of the American public.
And Sprint, along with its subscribers, would be the winners.
