My first Android and...

So if you can't unselected on my iphone, why do I need to reactivate my iphone?

Servers have to communicate with phone. Make sure that you tap on your Apple ID (Messages>Send & Receive) and then choose sign out.

Also as Epicness4g said, make sure that wifi is off after you sign out/turn off iMessage.

All you gotta do is uncheck your number from other devices and turn off Imessage on your iphone. I go through this with my GF all the time. Because I often go back and forth between the two devices. Once apples servers get the signal of you turning off Imessage the texts will start coming. Also having your idevice not connected to wifi will help too once you do make the switch. You shouldn't back down from switching just because of the issue lol its not the notes fault your line is still attached to apple.

Yes, make sure wifi is not on after signing out and turning off.

Don't worry, I've had the Note 2 since release and just realized this was possible due to this very thread lol.

Lol, I know, the simplest things take forever to learn. Yet the os system took pretty much less than a day to figure out.

Wow. What a way to start with Android! I have the Note 2 (hankering for a 3, maybe today) and and Note 10.1, and I love the combination.

Had my doubts about switching at first, glad I did, this is an amazing phone. For me anyway. It does everything I need it to do and then some. Now if my son would just keep his hands off of it!!

Thanks again for your reply TeamStroke. I feel like to have my friends, co-workers, boss, family delete messages is too much of a burden on them. I feel like the effort to change my phone number is my next step. i called AT&T on this and didn't get much support either. I've unregistered all my devices on apple's support page, disabled all my iMessages on all my account, unchecked my phone number on all devices (with the exception of the iPhone since its greyed out). Still open to any other ideas..

as a side question, anybody has suggestion on how they migrated their contacts over from iPhone to the note? thanks everybody!

I disabled Imessage on both iPhone and ipad, went to apple support, logged in to my account. I deleted my number completely, hit save and logged out. I am now receiving all my texts. I didn't unregister, I just deleted it.

Does he have to reactivate it to uncheck it? I would think factory resetting his iPhone would accomplish the same thing.

Thanks so much for this. I am likely switching soon and this type of info will make the transition much easier. Any other settings that anyone would recommend adjusting prior to switching over?

Hold the home button until the apps appear and then swipe to the right or left any individual ones or press the X at the bottom right to remove all

Yep this is how you have to do it (just FYI for others).

As to you "LosingMyMind"... I am glad you're loving Android! It is pretty awesome.. I switched a few years ago and am staying for good :).

Now.. Just need to get my Note 3...it will either be later this month.. But if not... Then next month for sure :D.

It is awesome!! I don't plan on going back, this may be my permanent new phone. I'll definitely have this for awhile.

As for the wait, it's well worth it. Hope you're able to get it sooner than later!!

Hi guys, i followed all your steps, and still no luck.

1. iphone: clicked on account id and sign out. then disabled iMessage. Wifi off. no data (obviously- no service anymore)
2. ipad mini: clicked on account id and sign out. then disabled iMessage. Wifi and data left on
3. Macbook Pro Retina (Mac OSX 9): clicked on account id and sign out. then disabled iMessage. WiFi left on--gotta make money, yeah? :)
4. Went to support profile.apple.com, and removed every single device i own for apple (Yes all 9 items). Removed my phone number from account and put a land line # as a placeholder.
5. Went on Facebook and asked a friend to message me from her iPhone, and still no luck.

Any other ideas?? Thanks everybody and appreciate the support as a new time android person.

Hey guys, i love the phone... Its a bit of a learning curve for me since i've been with the iPhone since launch. Can someone tell me how i can get notifications on my locked screen? i'm used to the notifications on the iPhone, its a functionality i do like. Thanks in advance!

Under the settings, device, lock screen, there are lots of options for widgets and things to be displayed on your locked screen. Under settings, controls, air gesture, there's a way to wave your hand over sleeping phone and it will show you any notifications, time, etc. Maybe that'll help.

Thanks. I don't see any options besides the clock widget. that would be cool if i could add widgets to the lock screen though.

This must be an issue because I'm not getting my texts either. They are all being sent to my iphone/I pad too. Let me rephrase that, anyone sending me a text from an apple device. All others are coming through on note.

If the person sending from an iDevice brings up your name and your number and email are associated with your Apple ID, it would by default send it as an iMessage, because you have devices that use it. You will have disassociate your number with your iMessage account if you want to receive all texts normally.

Hi guys,

I just wanted to update everyone. The reason why i was not getting texts, is likely that i had iMessages open and enabled with my phone number/email on my work log-in! Imagine how stupid i felt when i unlocked my work screen and saw all 36 "test" text messages from my friends right there in iMessages.

Anyways, i disabled it there, and confirming that i now receive texts from a few people that have iPhones. Thanks again everybody for your help and patience with an Android Noob!
