My Galaxy S5 battery life is poor

Seems you are using Facebook app and possibly Google+. Unfortunately those social media apps are not friendly to battery on android phones. Try setting manual sync on them. Or even disable, uninstall them and see how that goes. I personally don't use any social media apps and use browser instead to check it manually.

Not using Google+ means you can't access your photos on google account. But I use Picasa tool app that does it. And it's much lighter on battery than google photo app that syncs with Google+.

Ok here are my tips on battery life and they work
1. Turn of active sync
2. Bluetooth turn off
3. GP'S turn off
4. Social apps set them to manual sync or remove them and use via the browser instead
5. Network apps these tend to run in the background
6. Look at the running apps section see what is running and close third party apps
7. Widgets .. close widgets you don't use

i agree, and also remember to turn wifi off when dont use

Something that I have always learned with batteries is never keep it plugged Over 100% because it can drain the life of how long the battery will last. Other possible is roaming. At my work I put my phone in airplane mode. Try doing the same and see if you have the same results.

Uh, that's not true Otto. Phones are smarter than they were. Ack in the 80s, they don't charge psst the charging point anymore. Learn more about batteries before you post random ****.

An article that may bring some light on what he was referencing

"So if you're really particular about optimizing your battery's life, you should try to go from around 40 percent to around 80 percent in one go, and then back down whenever possible. A bunch of tiny charges throughout the day is your second best bet, and going from zero to 100 and then 100 to zero on a regular basis will put the most strain on your lithium-ion battery."
How To Take Care of Your Smartphone Battery the Right Way

To solve the battery problem I simply keep my phone on power saving mode wen not home always..... and I keep my screen dim. Also I always turn off internet data and wifi wen not using it always and I use greenify to kill apps running in backround. I know people are like they been doing these things wth the same results. But u have to be in the habit of doing these things which takes good practice and I have seen significant battery improvement. Thats y I emphasize I ALWAYS do these things its second nature I was on 100% ive been away from a charger for 10 hours and my battery is at 57 percernt wth significant use facebook youtube dead trigger2 and heavy texting

i notice when i use a dark or pur black background i get better battery life.

my opinion skip anti virus battery doctor apps, any thing that is suppose to speed up or analyze the phone generally does the opposite. turning features off will help and turning off notifications for most apps will also help any app that downloads in the background can eat up battery life too. turn bluetoothe wifi and advanced features off will help.

First day of use so far. This is with no video watching or game playing. All text/email/forums/web browsing and watching the stock market. I'm on pace for over 6 hours SOT. Brightness pretty low around 20%.

So I was having this same problem. Got my S5 little over a month ago and had great battery life, then all of a sudden 3 days ago the battery was barely lasting 5 hours, and that was without any use. I thought I hadn't changed anything, but when I retraced my steps, I remembered I had installed a new Samsung 32G memory card. Seems if you take out memory card without unmounting it first, when you put it back in, while the phone will read the info on it like everything is fine, it is constantly trying to reconnect with the memory card. So to fix it, I unmounted the card and then mounted it again and my battery life is back to normal. Heavy use all day and still at 80% battery life. I also took the battery out and put it back in, making sure it was seated firmly. Not sure which one of these did the trick, but it is working fine again.
Good luck.

I can make your life a lot simpler with one word: MacroDroid

with MacroDroid you can create macros that will sense the status of the screen.

Screen Locked: turn off the internet (WiFi, Data)

Screen Unlocked: turn on the internet.

I do not do anything else and I get battery life that is great.
If the phone is unused and idle for 24 hours, the battery use is about 8%.

If the phone is used normally, it is about 25% per day.

Does anyone else think that not using your smartphone as what it's meant to be seems foolish?

Yes, and I don't understand why so many people got bad battery life... With my S5, everything is open except GPS and Bluetooth and I get 2 days of med heavy usage with around 6+ hours of screen time. I don't use any power saving...

The unmounting/remounting thing :)

Posted via the Android Central App

Just tried it .... unmounted, put it in a MICROSD adapter, copied all my stuff off the microSD. ... then I put it back in the S5, formatted it (which honestly I never actually did), booted the phone.

I'll let you know if this helps.

Posting up battery stats without showing your screentime is pointless imo like the post above, screen only on for 7% i.e hardly on at all.

I can get over 7+ days battery life if i leave it in UPSM without using the screen, so, so what lol. Pretty pointless having a smartphone if you're not going to use the screen alot, might as well just get a nokia 3210 if you just need to make texts and calls :)
