Location + high accuracy drains my battery. Location + GPS only and i get excellent battery.

Ok here are my tips on battery life and they work
1. Turn of active sync
2. Bluetooth turn off
3. GP'S turn off
4. Social apps set them to manual sync or remove them and use via the browser instead
5. Network apps these tend to run in the background
6. Look at the running apps section see what is running and close third party apps
7. Widgets .. close widgets you don't use

I turn nothing off and get 40+ hours before next charge is needed. What you are saying is instead of figuring out what the cause is, just cripple your phone you spent all that money for to conserve battery life..

They need to get to the root cause of the problem. Tons of folks don't have battery issues and some do.. The answer is to figure out what is causing the problem.

I had one time in the 5 months I have had my VZW S5 where my battery life was an issue.. Come to find out, I thought I successfully forwarded an e-mail with an attachment when in fact I did not. The e-mail app was continuously trying to send it and it kept failing. My phone was getting hot and battery life went to crap. Checked what apps were being used in the battery section and saw my e-mail was top on the list. That was it.. corrected that and all was good again.

Just tried it .... unmounted, put it in a MICROSD adapter, copied all my stuff off the microSD. ... then I put it back in the S5, formatted it (which honestly I never actually did), booted the phone.

I'll let you know if this helps.

Ok. The unmounting/remounting thing did not work. However, I found my problem....

My main email account was syncing all the items instead of just mail and calendar. ... after I got rid of all the others my battery life is acceptable. Check and double check what you are syncing if your Android System is eating your battery.

Interesting. Is GPS only better than battery saver mode in location setting? I agree high accuracy is not good for battery though.

Screen on time is 2h. I'm on Vz, stock, latest updates. No video playback, only AC app, Web surfing, maybe 10 minutes call, some app updates over WiFi, couple of emails. Signal strength was always 3+ bars.

This is getting on my nerves, as battery was stellar in the first month after purchase. Then, it went down the drain overnight. I should add that I did not install any apps prior to observing the battery life getting bad.
I'm on Edge and will upgrade again next May so I don't want to invest in getting additional batteries, chargers and the such...
I read threads and threads of ppl claiming two days battery life without doing anything special to their phone, but unless it's on UPSM, I don't see how that is possible. Greenify is a waste as I think Samsung and Android already optimize their systems. Any suggestions? Thanks, I better keep this short to preserve some battery :)

I think that's because you r setting you Brightness too high, try to set in the middle and check automatic brightness

Hi. Was this resolved? I have the same problem and have spent almost a month trying to fix this issue. I purchase s5 early September. I was astounded by the battery life as opposed to my prior phones. I could go 2 days without a charge. Verizon update happens and my battery drains in front of my eyes with almost no usage. I did nothing different.
I should not have to disable and trick the system into better battery life. The update did something to these phones and it is beyond disappointing. I have spent the past month reading forums and trying every fix and nothing is working. Charge lasts less than 12 hours under light usage which is ridiculous.
And again, the phone is new. It was amazing for a few weeks and then an enormous battery drain issue with the forced update.

2 days???? I am fairly active on my phone, but I have to charge my new S5 several times during the day. I do have all sorts of push notifications, which I need to turn off. But if I don't use the phone and leave it on, it's about 50% after 8 hours. That's not a whole lot better than my S4 I got rid of because of battery drain.

Found this tip, maybe it can help:

"There is an Ultra Power Saving mode on the Galaxy S5 that turns the screen black and white and limits app access while still letting you make calls, send texts, use the internet and other features. This is designed to help you make even a 5% of the battery last all night when you can’t get to a charger.

With 30% battery life the phone can last almost 5 days in standby. To use this go to Settings -> Ultra Power Saving -> On and the system will switch over in a few seconds."

I did this and it seems to have helped. We'll see!

Uninstall Facebook. The app is very invasive. Use the web app instead :)

Delete unused apps. When the S5 runs low on free space it has to rely on the cpu more.
