My Nexus 6 is slow to the point of being unusable, am I alone?

You guys all have one or more incompatible apps installed; rebooting "temporarily resolves the problem" is a sure sign of this.

Look especially carefully at system-type apps: battery savers, antivirus, backup apps, launchers, and any app which can run in the background such as Facebook. Also be leery of games as all but the best designed can be troublemakers.

Or maybe Google can tighten the standards a little bit and make the approval process with the user in mind equally as important as the Dev? If they allow apps that can crash a phone, causing it to shut down totally then maybe they should stop messing around with Hangouts for a moment, an app they can't get right either, and focus on the making sure the apps they approve in the store don't wreak havoc?

It's funny but I've never had to worry about an app crashing an iPhone from the app store.

i have not noticed any slow downs at all. i really use my smartphones as a bus tool.... two email accounts, cal, goog docs, etc, and for multimedia/music at the gym/cycling. I don't game or any other heavy stuff so maybe this helps me.

i would hang tight though. 5.1 is around the corner and then I am sure 5.2 right after. 5.1 should really help a lot of what ppl are experiencing. look at what apple went through with iOS 8. my employees were going crazy until the first update.

I'm on 5.0.1 now, still unencrypted, and there's still some choppiness. Figured that small point update would make it better, but nothing that I can see.

Any change to the refocusing that occurs when recording video?

I'm seeing no reason to unencrypt as I'm still running as smoothly as the day I opened the box (Nov 21st).

I'll try it out and let you know. I had that happen when I was taking a 4K video of Kobe Bryant shooting free throws versus the Wizards. Pissed me off.

Yeah I'm not sure I've ever had a cell phone camera do that. Pissed me off too.

Well overall I'd say I feel the same way about this nexus 6 it is constantly having problems that my note 3 never had. I play YouTube it freezes and half the screen works or I'm playing a game on my phone and it lags hard throughout the entire game. It was a serious mistake I feel at this point and I hope google fixes the issue because I love the design and UI but I will never buy another nexus if this continues...

It's my 3rd day with N6, without reset and with most of my apps installed and set up and phone works very smooth so far. If there is any frame drops it is very low and very slight, mostly when opening/closing/swiping around.
As mentioned before I'd try to run the phone from fresh OS - wipe cache partition or even bring factory settings back and see how it works.
If you did it and phone still shutters then i would try to return it as something must be wrong with it then.

If you're having that type of issue with YouTube and are running stock (not a custom ROM), that's likely either due to very slow network speed, an extreme shortage of available memory on the device, an added app throwing a wrench in, or a hardware issue with your specific phone. As to a game, it could be that that game simply hasn't been optimized for Lollipop.

Not sure what got updated except various apps but that memory leak seems to be alleviated. I don't see lag every other day and have to reboot to clear it up.

I did notice the refocusing when taking a video. I don't take much videos on phones so I'm not sure how bad it is. I noticed it auto focused everything I went from a panning position to a stop. When I stopped I see the autofocus kick in but it didn't focus again until I panned and stopped again.

Quick and smooth as butter here.

Yup. My buddy with an iPhone 6 told me last night at the dinner table how much faster my Nexus 6 is than his when I showed him something on it - he sounded bummed.

Smooth and quick - never experienced the slideshows people are talking about.

Mine performs like an athletic beast. It just arrived last week. I've launched multiple apps, play games, stream YouTube, video calls in hangouts, google drive ... So far no issues. A buddy says his unit lags and he reboots every couple of days. Not sure if it matters but he has the ATT version and I got the unlocked version from Motorola.

From GN6 Beast

Using it for a week now and:
The only time mine seemed laggy was after extensive use of vr apps. At least one must've been written poorly and affected the performance - turning phone in and off helped.
It restarted once, reason unknown.
Works very smoothly, app or two crashes sometimes but nothing annoying.

I've had mine since launch and I guess I'm one of the fortunate folks who got one that runs great all the time. I've had none of the issues that have been described in this thread. T-Mobile here.
