My Nexus 6 is slow to the point of being unusable, am I alone?

thanks but i meant simply, easily, and officially by a flip of a switch in settings. i heard that Google was considering adding that ability.

Not yet. If they choose to implement it, I'm sure it'll be pretty prominent news. I doubt that that would be a feature that could simply be enabled/disabled quickly by the flip of the switch, as I imagine it would require (at least for purposes of encrypting) rewriting every file.

It is disappointing, though, that it was never a toggled feature. Even if in initial setup it was just a screen saying "Do you wish to maximize the security of your device" and a checkbox toggled 'yes' by default, with the (if necessary) caveat that changing your mind later would require a hard resetting of the device.

Hmm.. hadn't thought about that. I'll check mine when I get home, if nobody else has. I'm still expecting it would require wiping the device, resetting to the factory image, but would be pleasantly surprised if it didn't - and if it didn't, all that much more interested in having that ability for the Nexus 6 to see if there's a noticeable performance difference (not that I've perceived any lack of performance) to justify the lessening of security.

The first days with N6 was fantastic. I got the problem of freezing when I installed apps like cleanmaster and file manager. Now that I uninstall them things seem to be fine for a moment. don't know about the future

hi i tried to decrypt the files (disabled file data encryption fde) and it really improved my perfomance

Choppy is a good way to describe how the phone operates most of the time, though mine seems to progress beyond that after a while. And I'd agree the phone isn't unusable all the time, but user experience is unacceptable in my opinion, especially given the cost of the device. It has however gotten so bad on a couple occasions where it was truly unusable forcing a reboot. I suspect that could happen more often if I wasn't frequently rebooting it, yesterday alone I think I rebooted the device 5 or 6 times.

Here's an example of what bad looks like: I've had this happen three times so far, once the screen was locked this way on the google splash screen that plays on boot.

I have never had that happen on mine since the past 3 months I have owned it.

I can confirm that this seems to be an app compatibility problem. For me it was one the apps that are part of the Avast software suite for Android. I deleted all of them except for the antivirus and now my Nexus is blazing fast again.

Hope this helps!
