My Nexus 6P is dead... A new 6P or a Pixel??

Alright, so I need some input from the AC community.

I am a klutz and recently dropped my 6P so it is now dead....

So here's the question - If you were in my shoes, would you get another 6P or would you drop a bundle of cash for a Pixel?

And just to clarify, I dropped it good so a simply screen replacement is out of the question (don't ask)....

Thanks!

I'd go Pixel XL just because of all the upgrades, but there is a sticker price difference.

Good excuse to upgrade, especially if you have the extra money, or can qualify for their finance plan. They are throwing in a free Daydream with your purchase!

I guess that is part of my conundrum.... I am finding it hard to justify the hefty sticker price for all the upgrades. I mean, honestly, my 6P was an excellent phone. Yes, it camera was slow, but otherwise, I found it to be more than capable so I feel like I am trying too hard to make a case for the Pixel...

What are your top priorities in a phone?

I found the camera to be ok, not great, but more than up to any tasks I needed. Loved the screen, the feel of the phone in my hand. Pound, for pound the 6P was the best Android out there at the time. Still a great phone, and you can't go wrong replacing it. Other phones to consider if you feel like a change are the One Plus Three, the Axon 7, and the Honor 8, if you REALLY like phone cameras' then the Honor 8 might be the phone for you. They all come in around 400. :)

I think if you are fighting over the cost, that is a good sign to hold off. Stick with the 6P for now

Generally I gotta have the latest and the greatest. Thank GOD I passed on a certain Samsung phone though, LOL! Came THISCLOSE to getting one. ;)

Touch choice. If it was up to me, I would pick up the 6P to save a few bucks on something else. I want a GoPro. But that's me.

But if I didn't want that, I would pick up the Pixel XL.

But if my 6P was fine, I wouldn't bother with the Pixel.

Unless you need one of the unique features of the Pixels
- a better camera experience
- unlimited original resolution picture uploads to Google Photos
I'd vote to get a replacement 6P.

If I had money to throw around I'd get one just because, but I don't...

I try to avoid buying year old phones... but truth is I've never had one for over a year. While I like my 6P, I ordered a Pixel cause I want a smaller phone.

If the Pixel was only available in a 5.5, I would have probably stuck with the 6P.

I would skip the Pixel because it's priced too high and it's not water resistant. If you are going for a current phone, look at the V20, S7 or HTC 10.

If you want to go back a year, get the 6p or V10.

We get unlimited hi res on nexus too.

No. With the v20 and definitely the pixel, there's no reason in the world to go back in time and get one of the other two. Especially the s7, yuck.

Are those your only choices? I've had my 6P for 6 or 8 months and, while it's a good phone, I won't give Google any more money. If you want to stick with Android, you might consider the Axom 7 or OnePlus 3. Or, if you've got a Pixel amount of money to spend, you might consider the iPhone 7 or 7+.

Why? Google doesn't believe in loyalty. Google dropped the Nexus as soon as the Pixel line came out. Once they figure out that the Pixel line is overpriced and overhyped, they'll drop that, too.

If you actually read what I posted you'll see that I specified original resolution, not 'hi res' (which isn't what we get anyway). Here's what is provided

which is a compressed image that doesn't have the same quality as the original image.

Thanks for all the POV all...

I finally decided to go with another 6P. For what I was getting, I really couldn't justify the price jump, especially since the 6P is currently on sale through Fi, so it makes it a little more comparable in price with the likes of the OnePlus, etc... The upgrade to the camera would have been nice, but the rest of the package can wait until I have a little more money burning a hole in my pocket.

As for me, the reason I stuck with it was the camera was the best I had used in a phone, slow starts / processing not withstanding and it really did everything I needed it to do, and it did it well.

For me the most important thing though, were software updates, specifically the security updates. There is no other phone out there right now that I can confidently say will get the security updates in a timely manner going forward.

At any rate, this will continue to be my home forum...

Coolio, thanks for letting us know how you made out! I think you made a fine choice!
