I just got the nexus about 5 hours ago. In that time i used google music to stream 4 songs, and watched one 6 minute youtube video. So far the data usage is telling me that gmusic has used 220 mb of data, and the one video i watched used 40mb of data. I feel like there is something wrong here because I will easily be over 2gb by tomorrow at this rate. I used netflix/gmusic/youtube on my HTC incredible for hours a day before this and never went over my monthly 2gb. Is anyone else having this issue or is something wrong with my phone?

Have you EVER had an LTE smartphone before?

Have you called Verizon to take advantage of their "Double Your Data for the same price?" Its a promotion so you might want jump on that very soon.

You used netflix, gmusic, YouTube hours per day without going over your 2gb?

no the only other smartphone i've had was the htc incredible

Welcome to the LTE world my friend! All the rich media experience is going to be much easier to enjoy, in higher definition or bitrate. Very easy to run through your data cap in a few days.

Yeah, I used gmusic every day during my commute which was about an hour and a half total. And used netflix/youtube at night for atleast an hour. Some days I would use it even more. Each month my data usage was slightly under 2gbs

download a data enabler toggle and disable mobile data when you are not using it.

So basically you're saying that I can watch like 15 youtube videos and listen to a couple hours of gmusic per month before I'm paying per mb? LOL I kinda wish they wouldve told me that my data usage would increase by a factor of 50 before I got this phone. Looks like I'll be returning it... Even with 4gb I'd have to cut down my usage a completely ridiculous amount to stay under.

Did you have some music tagged for offline storage in google music? If you just got the phone, it may have pulled down your offline music to store on your phone.

I would suggest downloading all your apps, and pinning all your google music that you frequently listen to while on wifi, and then that should cut down on your use of mobile data. Along with doubling your data plan

Some apps will also stream at a higher bitrate to give you better quality on an LTE connection. For example, Google Music will stream at higher quality on faster connections, which, of course, consumes more data.

You can get ?grandfathered unlimited data" still. Call verizon and ask to add the unlimited hotspot feature for $30 a month. Then call the next day and remove just the hotspot, and waaa laaa you have unlimited data for $30 a month
