My P6P had a freak-out session today (flickering, flashing, chaotic screen)

My P6P freaked out and became unusable this morning. It was unlocked when this started. The screen was flashing and flickering. It looked like it was trying to switch apps but only half would slide over then it would vanish. I couldn't get the notification shade down to power it off, it kept popping back up. Chaotic, flashing, flickering mess.

It was very bad timing (leaving out personal details). I finally got it to shut down. I powered it back on and it was as if nothing had happened.

What is this? Or, any thoughts on this? Why? You too?

Thanks!

Wow! Do you use any security protection?

I use Microsoft Defender on all my devices. I've not experienced anything like this on my P6Pro.

Good guess. I do use Norton. It does have quite a few permissions including draw over the screen (something like that).

Were you thinking along those lines?

I have Norton but I never use it for the phone. I don't feel it's necessary to be honest...

I use Norton too. The day before yesterday mine froze in the camera app, started flickering then the screen went gray and then black. The phone wouldn't turn on for 5 minutes! I was pressing and holding power button and everything else I could think of and no response whatsoever for 5 minutes. Finally I saw the Google start up screen. I thought the phone just outright died

That sounds close to what mine did but mine never went grey/black, just kept flashing.

I had that power-on scare before too. What I realized was that I had to give it a good 5-10 seconds after it turned off before pressing the power button to boot it up again. At least, that was my experience.

In my experience any kind of security, antivirus, or cleaner apps do more damage than good on smartphones.

I don't really hear much about anti-virus programs causing serious problems, more about their effectiveness. I recall many instances of "cleaners" doing more harm than good.

However, I uninstalled Norton for now. I don't think I will be able to establish a causal link to it. I have never seen a phone flip out like mine did but we'll see.

The antivirus was just one suggestion. If you have other ideas that might apply, please share. I'll post if it happens again.

<fingers crossed>

Thanks!

I think I'm going to uninstall Norton too. I always questioned its necessity anyway. Also I need to free up one of my licenses so why not.

It happens to mine as well. Totally random. After a reboot it gets back to normal

Do you have antivirus software on your phone?

It hasn't happened to me again all week but that doesn't really mean much yet.

I've never used antivirus on any form of Linux, and Android is a form of Linux. I only use antivirus for desktop Windows.

Had the phone since launch, and today it went all wonkers! First it froze and then it rebooted itself twice. I don't have any security apps, so I'm wondering if it's Beta related because that's the only thing new on my phone. Truly is the strangest thing

If your in Beta i would assume that could be it

That's what a beta is for, to test new builds to see if there are any problems. That appears to be a problem and your job as a beta tester is to report problems.

I just went to the Beta feedback app, and sure enough, some others had similar issues. I'm just going to assume it's that.....For now
