My Pixel 4a shipped.

Ouch guess I’m low on they’re list. Hopefully it ships soon

Where's your location? I ordered during the preorders and got mine the 19th, but it wouldn't activate so they sent me a replacement & I got that last Saturday.

I think it depends more on location. Also mine is _supposed_ to be new and unusef6 but you never know.

If you're ordering for the first time, there's no reason to think it wouldn't be new. They would have to list it as used when listing it otherwise it would be fraud. Now if it's a replacement for a defective unit, then maybe. But the replacement they sent to me was new, but there are 2 reasons why it wouldn't be used. First, it only launched a bit over 2 weeks ago, so they probably don't have any used units yet. Second, in my case, it was defective from the get go, so that wouldn't be much different then selling me a used unit. Now id had it for a month or two, I could see them replacing it with a used unit since I would've used mine for awhile.

Regardless, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Not worried. But not gullible either. Chance of getting a unit that has been used is very small (actually I was thinking about a demo unit that had been out on "show&tell") but how would anyone really know it's virgin.

I'm still not clear on switching the SIM card over.
If I (while both phones are unpowered) move the chip from my XL to the 4a won't I need a chip in my current XL as well to clone the settings and data from the XL to the 4a?

To do the transfer between the two phones you will connect those to each other using the USB-C cable. The sim goes into your Pixel 4a. Just follow the setup instructions shown on your 4a. Just make sure you fully charge the 4a first.

Might not be bad idea to charge both phones, depending on how much he has to transfer.

The process goes like this. With both phones powered down,I've the SIM card from you current phone to the new one, then power only the new one on. It will have you do a couple things, then it will activate the phone. After that, it will have you do various things like connect to WiFi, activate fingerprint unlock, and transfer files from your old phone to the new one. When that happens, you'll need to power on your old device and it's a good idea to set the display sleep time to like 5 or 10 minutes. When it starts, I believe let's you choose what you want to transfer (check boxes next to pics, video, music, etc). It instructs you to connect the cable to the old phone, the to the new one. Just follow along with the prompts it gives you and it should be fine.

Since you already have a Pixel device, I'm surprised you haven't seen this when you set up your previous phone. I don't think they've changed the set up process for any of the Pixels, & IIRC it was the same for my Nexus 6p. But like I said, just follow the on screen prompts and you should be fine.

If you're ordering from Google, they don't have a demo unit because they don't have a store front where they could demo it in. Besides, Google is not going to risk the mess if someone found out they sold a used device as new. If they didn't have the stock, they just wouldn't sell you the device until they had the stock to do so. If you're buying from a place like Best Buy or Verizon that do have demo units, they would still have to disclose that. Although I'm not sure a demo unit could be warrantied.

For those of you who have received your devices what kind of shipping did google use. My order shows a delivery of September 15-16. Today’s the 13th and a Sunday. Hoping they use overnight or two day shipping. Dying to get this thing.

That's going to depend on a lot of factors. What they have in stock to ship, how far away you live from a FedEx facility, holidays of weekends occuring during the shipping process, if your area does Saturday delivery, etc. It also, as you pointed out, depends on if they ship with ground, 2 day, or overnight shipping. When you track your shipment, it should tell you what kind of shipping method they're using.

Great to hear! Was disappointed with the Pixel 3 and I'm glad to see this is looking like a real improvement over it.

Well google took the money out of my account overnight. No shipping notification yet but at least it’s progress.

Well I got the 4a up and mostly configured. Verizon company store did the heavy lifting with the SIM card move (might just as well, I'm paying them). The other apps and data was using a Verizon app called "Content Transfer" (duh). Pretty much just as described to me with a couple exceptions: TapATalk and Amazon I had to fiddle with to get configured manually.
I _think_ the transfer uses Bluetooth (?) but the "pairing" failed twice. (Along the way WiFi was also mentioned, confused the heck outta me!). Anyway the new phone generated a character string that I had to manually enter into the XL and then the transfer started. Still had to go back and say "Yes I'm me and I really want to do this". Zeach. And then the 4a phone had to load the apps.
All I can say is _I think_ I'm not missing any something. And it sure is nice to have a phone I'm not continually recharging. Time will tell.
I sorta miss the larger phone size tho the difference is not that great. And the number of times the phone service is DS has lessened seemingly.

I bought the unlocked, but on my previous Pixel phones I got thru Verizon, there is a transfer section during setup (Google's version) that does the same thing as you described, except it uses the included data cable instead of Bluetooth, which uses less battery and there's no issues with losing connection since it's hardwired.

As for battery life, I charged it just before bed and it lost 2% over 6 1/2 hrs while I was sleeping (98% left). I read a few things this morning, and a bit now as well 3 hrs later, and the battery is at 91%. The best battery life and standby I've had on a phone yet.

Btw, what do you mean when you say "the phone service is DS"?

And I was describing our local service. Inside NY city, Chicago, Atlanta, LA, Los Vegas, Portland, etc - I'm certain people get great service, lots o' bars. Out here in never-never land not so much.

I live in a similar area, just under a hundred miles east of the middle of South Dakota. We have steel siding on the house, which means we had to get a Network Extender to have any signal at all in the house. Back when I got my first smartphone, the difference in signal inside vs outside was around a 20dBm loss. And with each new generation network, their tower's signal range gets cut in half, yet they aren't adding tower's to cover the difference. So I know what you're talking about.
