I have tried to clear data and enable my downloads area I have had all of my technology handy friends look at my phone I even tried downloading it again off of my internet but that didn't work I have cleared the cache disabled it enabled it and it still hasn't work I tried force stop also is my only option to factory reset my phone??????

It may be the play store because mine isn't working right now either -- it just keeps loading and they times out and says retry. I forced stop and all that jazz. Wait and see if it gets fixed before doing a factory reset.

don't factory restore it...try going to your application manager, then scroll to the right to all apps,go to the very bottom and see if downloads is at the bottom. if it is enable it and see if that helps

Assuming that you've tried all of the previous suggestions, you can also try thisView attachment 70916from any Home screen, press the Menu button, select "Application manager", press the Menu button again and choose "Reset app preferences".

I've had the same problem for over a month. When I tried to open the play store it shut down immediately. I've tried most of the suggestions on here. The one that finally worked was going into the app manager and resetting the app settings. Brilliant!

Still wont work after factory resting it 3 times HELP!!! I rooted my phone and it worked after rooting it(i could use app store perfectly) until i disabled something important i think. I then enabled everything in the apps under settings but still dint work. Tried factory reset, still din't work, so I unrooted it and factory reset it again and still din't work. So i factory reset it one more time and still not working. play store pops up and closes right away. help pleasee?? I even disabled app store and downloaded a new one.. tried everything...

Have you tried clearing app preferences in settings>apps>menu>clear app preferences?

I have similar problems as discussed in the thread. some of the apps in my S3 is not working. It says unfortunately stopped working... My google play store, application manager, whatsapp etc are not working. As some of you suggested to clear cache, i am not even able to go to application manager to try that. not been able to delete google play store app. I have already tried the factory reset and the button reset as suggested by another forum. can someone please help me to reinstate my phone to original settings. I dont mind losing any data or apps. If someone know a solution, kindly give a step by step instructions so i can try accordingly. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Since you are rooted, why not try flashing gapps if clearing data from Titanium Backup doesn't help?

can someone please help me to reinstate my phone to original settings.

Here's an overview of what to do:
- if you don't already have the Kies software installed on your PC, download it (just search Google) and install it. The first time it runs it'll update itself to the latest version so make sure you run it once before proceeding.
- put your phone in Download mode: with the phone completely off, press and hold the Volume Down and Home and Power buttons simultaneously, and release them all when you see the Samsung splash screen
- connect the phone to your PC with the USB cable that came with the phone
-- if you've never had the phone connected to your Windows-based computer before, you'll see messages about installing drivers, etc - just wait until this is done (may take 5 or 10 minutes) [I don't know what happens if you have a Mac - it probably just works]
- in the Kies software, select the second item in the Tools menu and just follow the prompts to enter the model number (in CAPS) and IMEI/Serial Number (both found under the battery - it's ok to remove the battery at this point)
- the Kies software should start downloading the correct firmware for your phone from the Internet; once that's done (depending on your Internet connection speed) it'll begin downloading that to the phone (this probably takes 10 minutes or so)

A factory reset should be a last resort, John, not a first step. Spiral and Perv are on the right track.

In Settings / Application manager, scroll all the way to the right, then scroll down until you find downloads. If it is marked as disabled, tap that row, tap the enable button, exit and try the Play store again.

If it's not disabled, or you did the above and it still won't work. scroll down to Google Play store, tap that row, and tap the Clear cache button, then the Force stop button. Exit, and try the play store again. If it still doesn't work, repeat but tap Clear data, then Force stop.

If none of the above works, let us know and we'll try something else.
