My Rant on the iPhone 5s

The 5s is pretty much what was expected for an S upgrade, however... Apple just proved everyone that called the GS4 a GS3s wrong. THIS is how you do an 's' update. The 5c on the other hand... what in the world?

I'm also pretty unsure about the 64 bit processing on iOS. I'm not sure it's necessary there, yet anyways, or that the RAM needed to effectively utilize it is present and I'm more excited to see it come to Android.

Yes because improved battery life, dual LED flash, 64 bit processor, finger print scanner, M7 contextual processor, double CPU performance, double GPU performance and bigger lens all in the same body as the 5 is an totally not an engineering feat right?SMH

My main gripe about the fingerprint scanner is the apparent loss of opportunities. So far, it seems like I can only use it to unlock my phone and authorize purchases. What about using it in lieu of my login id and password to enter secure websites (something like one password)? What about locking certain apps (like mail or settings) so only I can access them?

Apple's strength had always been its ecosystem, and I feel it is a great waste not to integrate this feature more deeply into the OS.

That said, I wonder if we will also see this scanner in the iPad?

I feel apple is only getting started and will unleash the potential of it on later versions of iOS.

Actually, it isn't really. It's more of an average feat than anything. I'm not impressed. Sure it has double the power, a 64 bit processor, it has a lot of things. Really, who cares? This is the standard of Apple, minimal updates. It's mostly gimmicks, I mean a finger print scanner? they're not the first to come up with that idea, and it serves little purpose to most. And a faster processor? That's something that should be expected. It's not some huge engineering feat to make a new processor. Oh, a side note, you have so many infraction points it's insane. I'm assuming you just troll on this site

Engineering feat to fit that power that is comparable to other flagships in a much smaller physical body. By that logic the S3 to S4 is a small upgrade too right? Yeah I knew it. I don't think you will agree with me on that. Whatever I'm out.

That's what I am hoping as well. I would like to believe that much of their time and resources was spent on finding the 'right' way to implement a fingerprint scanner, and that they intend to improve on its features later on, rather than it being a one-off sales gimmick.

Of course you will be always dissapointed with Apple products, so wanna say anything new?

I might as well. Obviously we're disappointed with Apple products, why else would we be on the ANDROID forums? It's the same thing every year, Apple failing to appeal to a good amount of the public. The screen size is so small I once mistaked an iPhone for a credit card

Apple isn't like Samsung;)

Same thing to YOU. Because you hate Apple products not because they are the same thing every year.

If you call a bigger more powerful screen with a higher ppi, increased processing power that trumps the iPhone, a complete overhaul of touchwiz, and a slew of new features a small upgrade, I hope you're joking.

I used to own many iPhones, I switched because it has become a lackluster product. It's not surprising, its nothing special, it's nothing that compares to other superior options. Apple is playing catch up and Samsung knocks them a mile backwards with every release. HTC and Motorola do as well. I have no respect for Apple without Steve, he was the only thing keeping that company on track.

Marques Brownlee had a good point today. Steve would likely have fired a lot of people before letting today's products go to market. I'm not going to say the 5s is a bad phone (I haven't used it), and presumably it's better than the iP5 which many people think is a very solid device. I'd give it at least that much of a benefit of the doubt. My comment about the S3 to S4 update is that much more is taking place on the consumer facing side of annual upgrades in Android flagships than in recent Apple flagships. If we accept that processor, battery and camera updates are a given, they're just going to happen, it's easier to contrast the philosophies. Apple is hopefully still going to get seriously caught up in execution and polish rather than innovation, and that's okay because it plays to their strengths.

I think that at this point, it's pretty safe to conclude that Apple has absolutely no plans to ever implement NFC. I just read an article on gigaom about this little device called ibeacon and it seems that Apple is preparing to throw its weight behind wireless and Bluetooth tech, while continuing to ignore NFC.

What do you all think? Plausible? Any truth in the story?

You must be pretty stupid if you mistook an iPhone for a credit card...

Sent from my S4

No no I worded that wrong. It's the size of a credit card. That's why, while glancing at my desk, I thought I had put my credit card on the desk. It's that small, it's ridiculous. It's like it was made for a toddler

I have a 4th gen iPod touch that I have kept as my IOS fix, the updates over the last few years have been disappointing (yes I realize the iPod will get minimal updates). My phone and tablet are both Android and I have been happy and very content and will most likely never leave Android.
Based on what I have read about the new iPhone and OS, Apple seems to lost their revolutionary tendencies with minimalistic improvements to its products. Just an opinion, I by no means am an expert. My wife has the iPhone 5 and has too many issues with it. My year old EVO 4G LTE has more utility than her iPhone.

I am happy people are pleased with their purchase of apple products.
I am not an apple person with computers let alone anything else. The competition with technology benefits consumers.
After all if not for a loan from Bill Gates and Microsoft in the late 90's apple might not be where they are today.
I like choice and I do not have as many options on apple. I was not that impressed today but it could have been their lack luster presentation.

I think Apple won't have NFC, simply because they're Apple. Many better things exist, but Apple wants to make their own. Lighting cable? I laugh at it compared to micro USB and the new USB 3.0 port on the Note 3. How much did it cost you to buy all new adapters? $40? $80? More money for them.

Thanks for your opinion. I couldn't have said it better myself

The competition with technology benefits consumers.

To be fair, the market is rapidly maturing and we're going to be more and more bored with updates. How many articles do we tear through about rumored HP desktops or Asus' new mobo? The information is there, but it's pretty low drama and updates are incredibly incremental. It's actually somewhat impressive that in many ways the mobile world is way ahead of desktop in terms of contextual (for obvious reasons), voice and touch device interaction.

I think the frustration with not being wowed is being construed as hating the company. Speaking for myself, I want to see Apple wow everyone and for Android to have to step up to maintain their lead. Stagnation is a horrible death for us.
