My screen is locked , can unlock it without loosing data

I have a pattern password for my phone. My daughter tried opening it with a wrong pattern and it got locked and asks for a pin now which I don't remember . Will the screen ever come back to pattern or is there any way I can unlock it without losing data.

Android Device Manager. You can change the lock. Or bring it into your carrier and, with proper identification (so they know you're not trying to unlock a phone you stole), they can unlock it. No loss of data. (Which should always be backed up anyway. A truck riding over it the only time you ever drop a phone is total loss of data.)

my phone is locked and my carrier said they have to wipe my phone and loose all my data. very unhappy
