My text messages are showing in Facebook messenger

Hi, I don't like my text messages showing up in Facebook messenger. I need this to stop. Seems like anyone can look at a private text messages i send. Help, before I get rid of the Facebook and Facebook messenger for good.

Welcome to Android Central! My understanding is that FB Messenger can act as your default SMS texting app. Texts you receive that way are only visible to you, not to the general Facebook public.

As stated above Facebook Messenger does prompt you at the start to act as your sms application. If you selected yes you can still go back and change this in the settings.

OK, How?

I have my messages set as my default and I am still getting my messages on facebook Messenger. I have tried every thing I have read.
