2 new builds for the Nexus 6P have appeared on the Google factory images page. Both are labeled January 2017 and neither has an explanation if it is carrier specific. Neither one excludes Verizon like in Dec.

They are not carrier specific, one is the January 1st security update and the other is the January 5th update.

I'm concerned since the Dec. update was specific to exclude Verizon users. Apparently the 26I build has the same radio which caused Verizon issues, but the 26J build has a newer radio also in addition to more patches. I'm waiting to hear if the 26J will be OK for Verizon users.

I'm using N4F26J on my 6P right now. VOLTE Advanced Calling works, my 6P never did have WiFi calling on Verizon.

Does N4F26J enable WiFi calling on Verizon? Not clear why you mention WiFi calling. TIA

So I take that the J build is the one I want for the 6P on Verizon, correct? I was holding off on the previous build due to some weird issues I had read about.

I'm on Verizon and I sideloaded the 26J OTA last night. SO far everything seems to work correctly. The 26I build has radio 3.78. This is the same radio as NMF26F from December which caused VoLTE issues and was not for Verizon. There is no evidence I'm aware of that says 26I is not for Verizon, but Build 26J has radio 3.79 which in my experience appears to work fine on Verizon.

got the 'I' version as OTA and installed .( nexus 6p - international version ). Look like for verizon it is the 'J' version. is it safe to adb sideload 'J' version from the 'I' version?

You would need to flash factory image to latest, or side load all OTA patches in order until you get to the one you want.

Right now OTA wants to update me to 7.1.1 directly if I check for updates, just not sure which one it is.

I have run the 26J build through it's paces today. I am a Verizon subscriber and have a couple specific locations that were typical poor signal locations with almost guaranteed call drops. Today, not a single drop in any of the previous trouble spots. I didn't even drop to 3G at all. The call clarity was very good and seems to be better than it was before. YMMV but I am very pleased with the performance today on the 26J build with the 3.79 radio.

I ended up taking the available OTA which was NMF26F and then sideloading to NMF26J. All seems good so far on verizon.
