So i wake up friday morning and the first thing i do is turn on my phone. The weather widget tells me it is 40 degrees with light rain. Next thing i know simulated rain drops start sliding down my screen. I think to myself, that's pretty neat. All of the sudden i see a winshield wiper go back and forth across my screen. I was like, what? So i let the backlight go off so i can light it back up and confirm what i had just seen. Sure enough, it was a wiper!

Probably nothing new to Dinc users, or other android phones, but coming from a former BB user that was awesome!!

Haha, I did the same thing last night! I was showing the wife and kids. She thought I was insane cause I was so excited about it!

If you open the full weather app (tap the weather part of the widget) hit menu, and "demo" you can see all the animations.

These types of animation with the weather are specifically why I waited for the phone instead of going with the Droid X or waiting for the other 4G phones. I had a HTC Pro on Sprint back in 2008 and it did this type of thing and I hated the windows OS on the phone but loved the HTC part of it. I am loving my TB.

They are very nice but I miss the option of turning those animations off, use to be able way back when. Small battery saving method, still enjoyable though.

Any way to turn off that weather thing animation? Has to be a battery hog each time you turn on the screen.

In the settings menu I saw an option to disable/limit animations. I believe that I have mine on limited but the weather widget still does use them. I guess it is possible that this option has nothing to do with the widget itself. Hope it helps.

Haven't really looked because i wouldn't turn it off if i could. It's one of the things about this phone that i really enjoy. The display makes up 83% of my battery drain but i don't care, i'll just find other ways of conserving so i can really enjoy all this bad animal has to offer. My battery lasted 17 hours yesterday and i'm not done tweaking and conditioning. :D

I've been using these animations since "Sense" was called "TouchFlo" way back in the Windows Mobile days. Fear not: It does not affect battery life.
