Necessary To Partition SD Card?

Hi Everyone, Newbie Here

I want to install Honeycomb on my 8gb Sd Cl10 Card for my Nook Color. Is it necessary to partition the sd card? If so, why, and how much total space should be allocated for Honeycomb.

Also, is the remaining space used for downloading and accessing apps?
