Need early upgrade advice/trading advice

So my wife updgraded in June to the iPhone 4s, becuase she wanted the phone everyone else had. And now she hates it, but absolutely loves my S3, and regrets the iPhone purchase.

Will verizon allow an exception to do a special upgrade and sell the iPhone back to them? Or does anyone know of someone who wants to trade their white S3 for a white iPhone 4s?

Just trying to figure out how to get a new phone and not really pay much for it....Thanks for any help anyone can provide...

I don't think Verizon will do anything for you. After 14 days you are locked in with the phone. Ebay will help. iphone 4s are selling for about $400 used. You can buy a galaxy S3 for about $500 to $550. You will be out about $100.

As far as I know, Verizon will not buy back any phones once the 14 day grace period is done. You can try to sell her current phone on the open market and get a good price for it, but you will have to pay full price for the S3 since you aleady upgraded using the early upgrade.

Depending on the condition, you should be able to get a decent price for the 4s on ebay, then buy a full price GS3. It might even turn out to be less than a subsidized upgrade one after using the iphone money. Maybe find an old phone she can use until the money from ebay transfers, then go buy a GS3. They have a trade-in program but their rates are crap. $108 for a 32GB Galaxy S3 lol. Current rate on the 4S is $252 for the 16GB and $265 for the 32GB. https://www.trade-in.vzw.com/Home.aspx

I was three months away from my upgrade date and Verizon refused to let me upgrade early. I bought the phone outright and kept my unlimited data. So, no as the others have said Verizon will not help you.

I guess I'm the lucky one because Verizon has worked with me 4 times to get early upgrades.

Verizon will help you with early upgrades if their within reason to different contract points. Technically you can upgrade at month 20 so if you call during that 20-23 month time frame they will offer you the early upgrade. If you're at month 17/18/19 it's worth calling just to see if they can bump the date up, sometimes they will and sometimes they wont.

I just recently got early upgrade slotted for end of September despite contract end date being in April. Why? 4 months out puts me in December and the supervisor gave the ok for a 90-day upgrade window from December which gives me Sept. 28. That window was offered because I'm on a 3G device and as the CRS said "We want you on 4G". It's been noted on my account so come Sept. 28th I'm calling up to get my SIII (which is why I've been hanging around here so much).

It's not that they wont but just when you're calling and who you try with. Never do it in a store, never do it with online sales via chat always always call to get a CSR who works closely with supervisors. Sales cannot do anything for you.

That said your best bet is Ebay, Glyde or something similar. Swappa also has SIII's for sale at slightly less than the 599 price so you can sell the 4s for probably 250-300 and then flip that into the 599.

If I may, I would suggest that if the original poster is going to sell it on EBay, etc. he should do it SOONER rather than LATER. When the next version of the iPhone comes out there will no doubt be a LOT more 4s for sale than there are now.

Agreed. I just picked up a white 16gb GS3 on ebay last week for $500 with shipping included. Otherwise Verizon will only sell 4g phones without a contract online and best buy and other retailers jack up the price to $699 for the 16gb version. You can def get $400-$500 for a 4s that was picked up in June as long as there is no damage. I'm flipping my Razr maxx and after all is said and done the GS3 will have cost me about $150. You can def break even or maybe even make some cash depending on the situation.

I think i've found someone on craigslist who's willing to do a swap for the 4s plus a little bit of cash. I think that might work out well.

Make sure that the IMEI is clean before you make the swap. There aren't too many things worse than making a trade and then finding out you have a nice wifi only device...

hmmm... from my experience nope. the only thing i can think of for you to do is to sell the phone on ebay and use that to purchase the S3 at retail price.

After you sell your 4s (if that's what you decide to do), check out Swappa (Android) Buy and sell gently used Android devices for the S3 - many brand new for a decent price.
