Need help with root

Ok I just got this droid incredible and I want to root it. I have been doing my research on this, so I think I have an idea. I tried rooting with unrevoked and for some reason it didn't work. I tried z4root, I downloaded it and the screen said temp root or permenently root. I picked perm and started to work, it rebooted then came on and still wasn't rooted. I did that a couple times and no luck. I tried the temporarily root and that worked for some reason. Can any one please help me!!!!!

Z4root doesn't work on the Dinc. It works on the Galaxy S phones and a few others to my knowledge.

Go to the "Rom's and Hacks" forum. There are plenty of tutorials for rooting the dinc. There's a program called unrevoked that will do the rooting for you. It's not as easy as Z4root, but it's still pretty easy.

Go to unrevoked.com on your computer, download unrevoked, open the program, and hook up your Dinc to your computer with USB debugging on, and it will do the rest. Make sure to uninstall the HTC drivers and HTC sync first or it won't work.

If you're running a Windows computer, you'll have to download the hboot drivers first. Tutorials and the actual drivers can be found pretty easily. Again, go to the Roms and Hacks forum.

Since you recently got the Inc, you probably have an SLCD screen. I think they have a root manager now for it, but it's not the same as amoled. You should find it with a simple google search.

I am also willing to bet that you haven't installed the necessary drivers on your PC for the rooting programs to even see your phone.

Just get a mac and do it with UnRevoked and it works great.. super easy and you don't have to do anything but put it in debugged mode!

I believe Unrevoked works for SLCD screens now. If you have a mac, or have access to a mac, it makes unrevoked completely painless. Download it to the mac, open it, plug the phone in and it should do the work for you.

When rooting and doing anything else, be sure to read ALL the steps....multiple times if you have too. A lot of problems come from trying WHILE reading the steps.

not sure if I have the htc drivers or sync on my computer but dont think so and not sure what you mean about the hboot

That was the tutorial I used. It also has a link to the hboot drivers.

You can ignore the SLCD part now, since unrevoked now flashes recovery to an SLCD Dinc.

However, I'm going to guess that you got in touch with upstream and are already happily rooted. Enjoy!
