Yes I tried all the ones you posted or suggested. The stock one froze at the first boot screen. All the other kernels would just boot loop.

then you may have to unroot..you will keep info on sd but lose apps possibly

I have no problem with that but I downloaded the unroot file in the link you posted but when I choose it in clockwork recovery from my SD card nothing happens.

That's the one that freezes on the first screen

not from clockwork, if you put that pb zip file on the root of your sd card it should automatically ask if you want to update from hboot menu (vol up) for yes..is your sd card farmatted to fat32

windows, it probably already is, on xp if you have the file highlighted it should say fat32 somewhere in the left column

maybe but if you had verizon tranfers your contacts from an old phone there is likely a cv file on your sd...well cross that bridge when we get to it

I formatted and started the phone again but it does not automatically ask me anything

no im dumbfounded...the phone automatically tries to upload ay pb31 zip no matter what. what are you seein when you reboot?

now Im throwing darts, go into clockwork and apply zip, select PB31

ok, I think your only other option is to try the RUU froyo OTA.. here is the thread on it:
